didn't know this - he just finished the 3rd year of a 3 year $1.155 million contract...he is an unrestricted free agent now...

That's all pending CBA, but I believe that would make him restricted under current NFL rules unless they have a different set of rules for undrafted signings.

From the outside it seems like both parties would want him in Chicago. Fans there have always been high on Hanie and it looks like Cutler's welcome in yet another city is slowly going away. It was his first year in Mike Martz's system. They probably just felt more comfortable with a veteran being the main backup.

Honestly, his performance reminded me a lot of Tony Romo's first game when he replaced Drew Bledsoe against the Giants.

Showed a big arm and lots of potential, but needs a bit of refining that only comes with experience.

This pretty well sums it up:
"Athletic with mobility in the pocket. Good but not great arm strength. Makes some great throws but also forces things. Just like he showed in the Packer game. He is developing but not ready yet."
