Give me reasons for or against Legal Casino's in Texas.

Personally I think Casino's should be legalized. The money that Texas residents spend in Casino's in Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico could really save millions on dollars.

Now the state is wanting to close some Junior Colleges and Community Colleges along with some nursing jobs to alleviate the budget.

Been to Coshutta only once in my lifetime and no others.

I would support gambling in Texas to support tax $$ in the state.im sure plenty of big cities would buld themand people would come.

I might go- if not to gamble much- for the food if anything else.

I gamble on blackjack mainly when we gon on cruises- Won about $50 on our last cruise in Dec on Royal Carribean from Galveston.

I did a speech on this a few semesters ago. Something like 90% of Shreveports business is from Texas. The money leaving the state is a pretty big sum.

Thats true. I was talking to a bartender at Diamond Jacks who was wearing a Dallas cowboy shirt when the Saints were playing the Cowboys....he told me where his tips came from. ;)

A quick survey in any of the parking garages will back up your statement. I'm just afraid if Texas got Casinos they would just drop it in the general fund and go wild on special interest things for their buddys. We would be broke again in one or two sessions.:(

My wife could have more to gamble with if she was driving all the way to Oklahoma.

I'm surprised there is only 1 no vote right now.

Of course, keep the money within the borders; at very least an increase in minimum wage paying jobs for Texans.

No way on the increase of minimum wage. It's plenty high right now.

I have been in one Casino in my life, was kinda sad to me to see so many people that did not appear to have the resources to be there.

I personally do not gamble but the benefits of casinos would not last long and then what do you do then? Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

why would the benefits not last?

And whether someone should blow their money or not should be their choice imo

Based on that theory then we should not have school budget problems, lotto money goes toward schools in this state.

I do not have an issue with gambling or what people do with their own money. I always worked hard for a living and do not gamble with hard earned money.

The benefits would last, I just think they would be consumed quickly and not noticed after a short period. Then you have to legalize the next "bad" thing for the next shortfall. That was more to the point I guess.

Legalized gambling in Texas would bring billions of dollars to the state budget and the cities where gambling is allowed. The problem is making sure the dollars generated are dedicated only to certain programs. The lotto was originally supposed to generate money for schools and very little of the profits go for that purpose because the state manages the games and the administrative costs take most of the funds.

Casinos would be managed by private industry and gambling fees and taxes COULD be directed to specific programs, with the sales taxes generated by hotel rooms and food sales alone being a huge boost to state and local coffers.

They key to it's success is forcing the politicians to use the income in a responsible way. AND, we all know that that is nearly impossible.

everytime i go to Lake Charles, its mostly all Texas license plates. Now if they legalize it in Texas that would crushed the casinos in those other states.

I don't gamble, but am for it if it will keep some of those $$$ in Texas and create job opportunities.
