Takeaways aren't everything -- the_Cowboys_doubled their_total to 20 under Paul Pasqualoni and still allowed 25.5 points a game in the final eight games. But takeaways were a big reason why they averaged 29.1 points in those eight games without Tony Romo at quarterback.

When Jason Garrett took over for Wade Phillips, one of the first things he emphasized to the team was turnover ratio. It's the stat he believes in most. And he knew more takeaways would create more chances for his undermanned offense.

That's sure to be an emphasis again_next season._With that in mind, here's a look at previous takeaway_rankings for_the_Raiders (2004-08) and Browns (2009-10) under Rob Ryan, the apparent frontrunner for defensive coordinator.

2004: 30th (18 takeaways)
2005: T-29th (19)
2006: 27th (23)
2007: 21st (26)
2008: T-17th (24)
2009: 31st (19)
2010: T-13th (28)

Not high rankings. The Browns' 13th ranking in 2010 is Ryan's highest yet. Then again,_despite the Cowboys' considerable struggles this year, one can argue he would inherit more talent in Dallas than any defense he has coached in those previous seasons.

I was really hoping they would talk to Ray Horton..Not sure what I think of Ryan..he has the pedigree, but has yet to have a monster year as a DC yet....like you said maybe it is the talent
