Jasper Head Coach Search Getting Intresting

Sounds like from other sites the search for a new head coach and AD in Jasper is coming to a end and will be announced soon. Sounds like the front runners include Barbay from Anahuac, Alvarez from Kirbyville, Dangierfield HC, and Carthage Coach.

I can't see Surratt leaving Carthage for Jasper:thinking: Not saying Jasper is a bad gig...............just saying he got a pretty damn good thing going on at Carthage.

Bowman at Daingerfield is sure trying hard to get out. Must have some down classes coming up. He's a finalist for the Fredricksburg job too.

In regards to Bowman, it's more about the local economy within the Daingerfield/Lone Star ISD, then athletes in the DFLD pipeline, as to why he's moving on IMO. He's tapped out of money, and it's getting worse as I hear.

The athletes are in the Tiger system still.

While Buckeye basketball was getting good and and warmed up, he was getting sized for his 3rd ring in as many years. Don't think he's worried about it. ;)

:clap: I don't think he's worried about that, either. I do think that he's looking for a "step up" in pay scale, however......., and, no, it definitely has nothing to do with a downturn in athletes. Daingerfield has, and always has had, an abundance of athletes. It just takes a good coach that'll instill discipline in the program to get the most out of them, and that he has done.

I also don't think Surratt will go anywhere until the AD/HC retires from Texas High in the next year or so. When that happens I expect him to take his place.

I never said he couldn't win games and while i played for Jasper we went 3/4 against Kirbyville. While he lived in Jasper - before he went to Kirbyville. I went to the same church as he and his family did and i went through a decent chunch of primary school with one of his kids. So i know the guy.

I'm basing this on what I saw him allow his players get away with on AND off the field and the lack of integrity he showed towards our program while i was in school and played football. Even if this was solely behavior towards Jasper - I don't like the idea of having someone coach my high school alma mater who is willing to stoop to low levels to win games. Sorry.

I guess If I was a Jasper player that just got dominated by a school half my size that I was predicted when I was predicted to win by 20 or more would be upset when the oppposing team was celebrating and slide on the field. But the point of that which i wanted to convey was controlling your players - not encouraging that. You are right, it is a man's game. So after the last second runs off the clock and you yell and cheer because you won, you get in line, shake hands, and get on the bus.

I have been on the sideline for more than one Jasper/Kirbyville game and I can attest to this as well. No matter how many games Alvarez has won I would not want him coaching my kid. Just ask Silsbee folks about his lack of class. He had to be escorted off the field because he lost his mind and was yelling and screaming at the refs.

No doubt he has built a winning program at Kirbyville, but as far as I'm concerned he can stay there. Character matters and it obviously played a part in Jasper's decision as to who to hire.

Yep, was run out of Bullard and came to Van for 1 year as an assistant. Was let go here in Van after 1 year as an assistant. Had nothing to do with his ability to coach though as two years later he won his first state championship as a HC.

Aside from Jasper's last hire, Jasper has exuded class. Unfortunately the last coach we had was about as classless as they come. That's one of the main reasons he is no longer here.
