Why do the NFL footballs not have white lines on them like College and high school footballs?

The original balls did not have the stripe. They were added after they started having night games. Not sure why the NFL never went there unless they just wanted to stay "old school".

Actually back in the 70's I believe the NFL did have the stripes. I didn't realize until the other day that the NFL footballs were bigger than high school and college footballs.
