When Brownwood dropped to 3A I heard about this site....believe it or not on the 'Brownwood Lions' web site. Someone named "Rocket" posted that it was a great site and Lion fans should check it out!

I looked it over a few months and decided to donate and join in July of 08 in order to bring a little sensibility to the site. ;)

Well technically slpybear was a moderator at FNF, not an owner, so reopening wouldn't be up to him. I think some of the owners post here, but I haven't seen any of them around in a long loooong time.

ditto

You are thinking of Yellowjacket2001.

i had to re-register when i came back and they had moved to vb, but i was here when it started, lol, since Matt328, Bearcat1 and Gobbla were from the Pigskin Prep message board and had joined together to make this one in the first place. At first they had regional pages and some older forum format but at some point they kicked out jacket and moved to this format.

FYI--J. Caldwell, who owns the 5ATexasfooball site and was a friend of mine, and myself (who originally had a 2A site 2000-02), and this site were all from that same message board at JBC Pigskin Prep--Probably because Buck cargal's board was one of the first to really take off. That was a long time ago (circa 1998)

I didn't know matt really, but i had known Bearcat (from Aledo) and Gobbla from the previous site and so i came here whenever they started this one (fall of 2000?) but once Celina went back to 2A in 04 i didnt come back until 06

That's a tough question, and depending on your personal beliefs, there may or may not be a creator.

So, your answer could range anywhere from "God" to "Nobody", but would probably fall somewhere along the lines of "Matthew328, Gobbla2001, Bearcat1, and Administrator"

Thank-you Bobcat1,
Yes, I went back and looked at the 1969 "True Grit" stills. John was carrying the Win '92 that Winchester gave him. The Henry, was rimfire
and was started aprox 1858 and the final year was 1866. I respectfully,
feel very confident.;)

John Wayne's Western films featured the Winchester Model 1892, Winchester 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine, and the Winchester Model 1894. To the best of my knowledge, he never carried a Henry repeating rifle. The coach gun he had in True Grit was a Greener.

Maybe Nate is thinking about "Quigley Down Under"...
Then again, Nate goes off the reservation a lot...:D

I think the Sharps was also featured in "Jeremiah Johnson" and the Martini-Henry in "Zulu".

The Henry wasn't featured in a whole lot of films. I do remember Danny Glover's father had one in Silverado. I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Only on the downlow can a thread about when you joined the board turn into a conversation about what type of gun John Wayne carried!!:D :D

Started "looking in" during the summer of 2004. Initially I only noticed a lot of South Texas
folks posting and given the web sites name, I figure it was dedicated to that area. I was a
member of another board at the time and LHPM, DaHop, Stang Red and RM regularly posted
there. All had mentioned the DL. So, I owe them the credit for finding this site.

For me it was

I start reading it when it was a Cuero website guest-book back around 1999-2000.

I believe the "greener" was featured in "Big Jake" too.

registered one night when i was searching for 3a football scores way back in 2002 during the beginning of the mcgee/shipley era and donated and all that good mess, and disappeared off the face of the earth back in 2005. turns out when you get married, change jobs, and move all in the same two week span, you tend to forget things that you really like. lost my membership when i hadn't posted in forstinkingever back in 2006 or 2007ish and made my prodigal return last november. a wife and two kids later, i forgot how much i missed this place. glad to be back and somewhat productive...somewhat..

I started reading in October, 2002 and joined in December, 2002. I kind of forgot about it for awhile, then the youngest one had strep throat, so I was stuck at home while the Wimberley game was being played practically across the street. That was the Fall of 2003 for my first post.

I wish I was smart enough to have started this site, but alas I wasn't...my role was simply to help out and keep content going on the site through the early years...I was just a caretaker...Bearcat and Gobbla were the ones who really started it and Admin helped this thing take off..I just tagged along for a little while.
