Are there going to be kids from

Kendall Thompson the LB is a UT commit( for now)

Edward Pope is a JR but already expected to be ranked high next year

Jalen Claiborne has teams like Baylor looking at him

Hunter Holland I think before it is said and done will find a place

The majority of that OL should play somewhere after HS. Defense, too.

Well since they fielded a much better team this year, it is very hard to believe.

Thompson is a fantastic player. He will do well.
Pope is going to be D1. Great DB.
Claiborne lacks a little size bu speed will help him.
Holland is a stud. He is a gamer and has good size. What's his height and weight?

How about the left offensive tackle? I don't know his name but I remember his size (GIANT) and number, 72.

How many would you think on a good/great 3A team? What has been the most from a team and who was it?

I am curious as it seems that at times magic happens and a few end up together like Daingerfield has had the past several years.

In know Celina has only had a handful this decade that went D1. If you exclude UNT (barely D1) I can only think of 2 out of 6 State Championship teams.

D1 is rare air and you can really tell when you have one.

Kendall Thompson is committed to UT (without a doubt!)
E. Pope - is a junior (hasn't decided)
Jalen Claiborne will prob go D1, but haven't heard for sure.
Hunter Holland -- Air Force Academy (positive!)
#72 is Gregg Brantley. Haven't heard where he is going or if he is.

Haven't heard any other definitive.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to have 4 true D1 quality athletes on the same 3A team.

Good for them and good luck with the 3peat!! Go Bulldogs!!

From the "town talk" he was going to Air Force Academy even if football wasn't offered. Seems like a great young man as well.

He sure can run the football.

A "good" 3A team MAY have one D1 player, if that. However, there have been 3A teams with several starters that went on to Division I schools throughout the years. Heck, I believe that 1983 Daingerfield team had four players that went on to the NFL.

But how many D1 kids were on those Gilmer teams? Seven or eight at a time?

After the game, the guys at TexAgs were goofing about getting Sherman on the horn with Hunter Holland. Kind of a karma thing for the new Shipley/McCoy combo at UT, who both lost to Carthage. LOL.

Navasota, that I can think of:

2000 - Markus Pratt, LB - SMU
2001 - Fred Fleeks, LB - OU (I remember Stoops chilling in the coaches office)
2001 - Marcus Maxey, DB - Miami, Kansas City Chiefs
2005 - Chris Smith, FB - TCU
2008 - Dexter Pratt, TB - OKSU
2008 - Brandal Jackson, WR - A&M
2008 - Gaston Lamascus, WR - A&M
2009 - Jarvis Harrison, OL - A&M
2009 - Aleon Calhoun, OL - TTU (grades forced him to Navarro, though)
2010 - Kesnick Jones, S - ???

Gilmer's 2006 team had 9, if my memory serves me right, and lost to Libert Eyleu in the first round...they went on to win State...talk about a shock to be beat by them...heck, they had nothing that year for talent! Well maybe one or two. We were robbed...we deserved it...LEDad & I have discussed this before.

The 2006 team had:

GJ Kinne - QB @ Tulsa
Justin Johnson - RB @ Oklahoma and Abilene Christian
David Snow - OL @ Texas
Daniel Jenkins - OL @ Missouri
Jacob Jenkins - OL @ Missouri
Curtis Brown - DB @ Texas
Lamar Harris - DB @ Oklahoma
Jamell Kennedy - WR @ SMU
Stump Godfrey - QB @ New Mexico

I believe that is the complete list. I don't remember if Jacob Jenkins was actually on that team or not. But either way, Gilmer had A LOT of talent on the field that year.

Liberty-Eylau had a pretty good junior that year too. . . Does anyone know who LaMichael James is? He had about 175 yards rushing on 20 carries.

James was pretty good but my memory is on their quarterback...I can't remember his name... the combo was a killer, but in 2007, we had James' number.

Will Middlebrooks. He plays minor league baseball for the Red Sox in Virginia now.

My cousin is actually a bat boy for that team and is pretty good friends with him. He had no idea that he played with LaMichael James in high school and that he was a state champion in football and baseball the same year. Had to tell the heartbreaking story of how his L-E team beat my Gilmer team.

I remeber now...in my opinion & the way I see it, taking the Baseball Route was wrong....why would anyone trade baseball for football?

Seniors were:

Manuel Johnson - WR @ Oklahoma/Dallas Cowboys
Tay Bowser - DB @ Miss State
Kevin Hollis - DB @ Kansas State

Curtis Brown, Jamell Kennedy, David Snow and Daniel Jenkins were also on that team.

He went to SMU as a WR but I think ended up quitting the team. Not sure if he stayed there or went somewhere else.
