Region 3 Area Round Thoughts and Picks

Caldwell (18-10) vs Jasper (15-16)
I know Jasper's record isn't impressive but they had to deal with a lot of early season problems, players being dismissed etc. The Dawgs have rebounded nicely to win 20-3A I like Jasper..Matt's pick: JASPER

Groesbeck (22-10) vs Marlin (18-9)
One of the better matchups in the Central Texas area..a couple of extremely athletic ball clubs going at it..I have a soft spot in my heart for the Goats but my head says Marlin..Matt's pick: MARLIN

Hardin-Jefferson (29-3) vs Manor (22-11)
H-J is looking real strong at the moment..Manor has been the feel good story in Region 3....but the Hawks have too much...Matt's pick: HARDIN-JEFFERSON

Navasota (19-13) vs Cleveland (21-10)
Another excellent matchup here...Cleveland started out slow but the young Indians have gelled and they are a sleeper in Reg 3...Navasota hasn't been impressive but they get the job done..Give me the Tribe..Matt's pick: CLEVELAND

Cameron Yoe (19-8) vs Mexia (26-3)
Yoe got a hard fought win over Gatesville Tuesday..they'll need a huge effort to upset the Blackats who are a state title contender once again..too much Mexia in this one..Matt's pick: MEXIA

Crockett (19-10) vs Robinson (22-8)
Keep an eye on the Rockets..no one talks much about em but quietly Robinson has put together a great year..Crockett may be more athletic but the Bulldogs are young and raw..Robinson is a senior led ball club..I like the Rockets..Matt's pick: ROBINSON

Barbers Hill (22-8) vs Hempstead (26-7)
BH got over the round one hump people talk about, but just the Eagles luck, they get Hempstead and Tyrone Nelson..the 6'9 center is probably the best 3A player in the state and a D-1 lock..Hempstead by 20..Matt's pick: HEMPSTEAD

Smithville (19-12) vs Kountze (27-6)
Congrats to Smithville on the win over Sealy..they won't get to enjoy that one long..Kountze rolls..Matt's pick: KOUNTZE

These teams have already meet once this year in the BH Tournament and the result was Hempstead 87 BH 73. BH hung with them pretty good untill half time but after the half it was the Tyrone Nelson show. Tyrone shocked the BH crowd when he went up and dunked over 3 BH defenders. Tyrone is for real and a great athlete.

we were down to HJ by 1 with a minute left but just didnt hit the shot. and they went up on free throws. It was hard in the locker room after wards. But all starters are returning so watch out next year.
