I am pumped about this game, and "my" team is not even playing. Just gotta see how the speed and quickness match-ups play out!
Gonna be a great game, whichever team wins. :)
May both teams play error free ball, and the best team win!

Exactly Beast. I want the best from both to be laid out on the field today so we all can feel better about how this season ended! Go Coldspring!

Very impressed with the Carthage QB. Congrats Bulldogs on a great win.
Trojandad, thought you guys were gonna pull this off in the 2nd half after keeping it close. Too many turnovers and too much time for the Carthage QB. Congrats on a great season. I know you are very proud of the kids and the coaching staff. Coldspring will be back.

Well, I just saw a Carthage Team put it to rest...there was not another team in the state that could take them...amazing...they went through the best like a buzz saw...it's your turn Dawgs!!
The District of Doom has proven that East Texas Speed kills and I am sure that there will be a few that will say "they are over rated"...Oh Well.
Now for a couple of weeks of rest and we can start on 2011.
Congrats to Henderson & Carthage. Don't get too comfortable...the Buckeyes are still here.

You are an idiot. You are a complete and total idiot. You are the EXACT reason that Brownwood has caught the pure hell it has reaped over the last week. I am once agian reminded why I was happy with the Brownwood loss...because of people like you.
Ban me for calling him an idiot. I can accept that. But let me repeat....#1 Texan...you are AN IDIOT.
Congrats to Carthage. You proved you are definitely the best team in DII. I bet you are also the best in DI as well, but we will never know. You guys rock!!!!

Congratulations Carthage!
I thought Coldspring could hang with you, and they did for awhile. But in the second half, you proved you were the best in 3a! Again, congratulations on the win and the 3-peat.

Dude, you need to back off! I have to agree with Wimbo on your comments. Nice Win and 3 peat Carthage, class football!
But Wimbo, now I know you couldn't have hung with the Lions for sure, but we must never know......till next time!
Great showing Coldspring, just too much talent on that offensive line of Carthage! You guys had them on the ropes in the first half, nothing to be ashamed of, kinda figured you might give them a game.
Great game guys, it was an awesome experience:clap:

The amazing thing about the offensive line is that we were worried about them going into the year. A great group of SR. linemen graduated after last year's Championship.
We knew that Anthony Morgan would be lights out at QB...
IF he wasn't running for his life all year. There was a little of that early on, before district, but man o' man how they gelled into a strong unit.
Like another poster said, "Ant" had all day to pass tonight, and that is very bad news for any team playing Carthage.

:iagree: Yes, absolutely, he had way too much time. Kudos to the Carthage OL!! Still, he is a very good QB!!

And yes, we did have a "freshman" guard start all year long.

i havent had a chance to read things on here, i just got home and am gonna crash for a few hours, but i wanteed to take a second and congratulate the dogs for their game yesterday....great game by your men, they were athletic, disciplined and deserved all their hype.....carthage is the deserving champs for this year....
thanks to everyone good enough to message me with condolences and it could have gone better obviously, but this guy is a happy camper.....the guys represented themseves very well, and as i told many of them they need to be proud in the fact that they were the best on the field in several phases of the game, now they have to understand that teams like carthage understand that the teams that achieve in the MOST phases of the game are state champs.....
plus, i got to see my son walk across shsu stage this morning, receive his degree, hug my neck and whisper in my ear that he applied to grad school (this son who had forever convinced me he was allergic to grad school)......so if there is a more proud man, i have no idea who he is.....
i'll be back on later to discuss what i saw in the game....ill say this, #80 for carthage is the best athlete i have seen all year, bar none, such a phenomenol player.....
oh, and for those trying to find me after the game, i guess i texted so much during the game i lost my battery, i was trying to find you where you moved to, but when i tried to call back, the phone had gone beddy bye....oh well, had to get home for the graduation this morning.....thanks again for trying to find me, i sure wasnt ignoring anyone, we looked for you until the aledo game started then had to go.....
congrats again to carthage....

Actually, the DII champ beat the DI champ 43-33 on Friday night, Oct. 22, so we absolutely do know.

well not that it matters, but since coldspring doesn't have much other voice out here, i thought i'd chime in on my two bits before disappearing into off season wasteland....
first off, i've heard a ton about carthage's qb and rb on here, but the portion of their team that i considered absolutely the best was their offensive line, in particular their pass blocking....i actually held out hope going into the 2nd half because we didn't show but one blitz the entire first half, leading me to think that barbay was saving them for the 2nd half....well, he did blitz the 2nd half and not one got through....that group is what gave their qb the confidence to look downfield rather than having to watch his back like the qb's in our previous few games had to.....as far as i'm concerned, those offensive linemen were the mvp's....
a bright side for us was our #52, chance andries, dt...carthage tried all night running to his side and that kid beat every single double team sent his way, i've never seen him play such a game all year....he's the primary reason that holland didn't get going that night...he's a bad bodied, round dt that doesn't look like much but ask any carthage off lineman and they'll tell you how much of a man was playing that night.....
and another item, your holland rb, great season, just like gilbert, lots of stats, but head to head it wasn't close....now morgan? he showed up big time, but if we give morgan his due for showing up, gotta give it for gilbert's 199 yds in stats....i haven't seen cummings numbers for that night yet but i'm guessing they were very similar to hollands.....holland got his big night against b'wood's defense who, we must now consider whether they had as good of a rushing defense as coldspring has....b'wood obviously did a better job of pass defense than us, but the numbers show we had a better running defense against the same team......this game supports my thought that gilbert should have been potw last week when his per carry avg was almost twice what hollands was.....
now, about our pass defense....what defense? lol no, i won't go that far, here's what i have seen.....it was adequate against bridge city (passing team) and columbus.....going against athens and wimberley the games started the same way, both teams attempted long bombs on the first play of the game only to have our #4 sykes intercept each of them....on the first play of the carthage game, they threw the bomb only to have our db and their wr tangle feet (completely legal play) but our db pulled up lame on the play....LOTS of confidence for morgan to continue to throw, and he did....
here's my assessment, as far back as the k'ville game i think they could have won if they would have continued throwing the ball in the 2nd half, they didn't and we came back from 2 tds down....i think athens, tho loosing by 30, could have made a game out of it if their qb had not lost his confidence, same with the wimberley qb, very capable, he was just holding the ball rather than giving his wr's a chance to make a play....either of those 3 games we could have lost if our def line was held off their qb as well as carthage's off line did....
the one other thing i couldnt get over about our db's is how many times we would be step for step with their wr's and then in the last two steps we'd decide to jump rather than keep running with them....now THAT is something i never saw in any other game we played...3 of those td's were made with our men deciding to jump instead of keep running....i dont know whether it was the stadium, the big stage, i dont have a clue and intend to find out, but they were giftwrapping td's for carthage....
another item that i think came back to bite us was the habit that barbay got into the last few games of passing more in the 2nd half....when we came back against k'ville we did it with the run, not the pass.....he seems like when he gets a lead he "practices" his passing game....i heard some athens and wimberley posters talk about holding us in the 2nd half, but part of that in my mind was barbay's changing from run to pass....i'm not faulting him, he knows much more about football and his team than me, but it was my thought that if we would just keep running the 2nd half the game would have been closer.....when running the ball intensively in the 1st qtr we were able to take so much time off the clock that carthage was only able to run 3 plays in that qtr....
my assessment was that carthage's fg team was light years better than ours, i feel we held our own on punting, their def backs played better, our running defense was the best that day, our rushing offense was better, their offensive line pass blocking was near perfect, giving time for morgan to be far superior on passing offense, the difference in the game.....
i wish we had the type of district opponents that carthage has in order to sharpen our skills against, we have to do that in pre district play....i knew passing teams would give us fits when i saw how much trouble huffman gave us, and in the end it happened to be true....but we've had a great run and, with many of these guys coming back, it looks like we could make some noise again next year....
i know we got lucky against k'ville, athens and wimberley, and luck does come into play, but either of those teams could have represented our region well....we just got the breaks for 5 out of 6 games......see ya next year....

Good observations, and spot on from what I saw! That Carthage Offensive line was clearly the best I have seen as a group. They should be considered for Players of the Year, without them, Morgan would have had a less stellar year.
Congrats on an outstanding year, I too believe that the Trojans will make some noise next year. Good luck! Great year!

congrats again to carthage.... Sorry we missed you dad. Really wanted to meet you. Our batteries were dying too and midway through the 3rd qtr my battery finally died. LOL
I was very impressed with your team even if others were not! Congrats to them on a WONDERFUL season. We were once in your shoes. Good luck next year and hopefully we can meet up.
Congrats to the Bulldogs of Carthage...only one word to describe them....IMPRESSIVE! :2thumbsup
