So, is this qualified by new 3A or 3A even in the old 4A as the highest classification years?

Nope... Cuero was 4A prior to 1982. I have a thread from way back that shows what classifications all schools were in going back to 1951 when the UIL expanded to 5 classifications. Unfortunately I only made it through Regions I and III for the 3rd Largest Classification.

The only 4 schools that have been in the 3rd largest classification every year since 1951 (60 consecutive seasons) from Regions I and III are Dalhart, West, Decatur and Caldwell. Those tables were EXTREMELY tedious to put together so I don't have an answer regarding Regions II and IV right now. You'd have to go through individual team histories and look it up and some of my histories only go back to 1980.

I made it through the entire 5A classification (2008 alignment) and you can find similar tables near the bottom of the thread below.

Alief Hastings holds the record for growing from lowest classification to largest classification in the shortest time. They were Class B 1967-1969, 1A 1970-1971, 2A 1972-1973, 3A 1974-1975 and moved up to 4A in 1976 (which was the equivalent of 5A then)

3A was the equivalent of 4A prior to 1980 as 3A was the 2nd highest classification then. My tables above show who was in the 3rd largest classification the most number of years.

Bonham has been 3A since 1982 (dropped from 4A), Gainesville since 1992 (same). Whitesboro has been in 3A non-stop since 1972; before that they bounced around between what is now 2A and 3A. All the rest of our 3As are recent risers.

Hey WOS, a while back you posted a list of the best teams based on margin of victory in a season, with Dangerfield being #1 and the 1985 Goldthwaite team being #15.
Can you post that again or give me link?
Thanks.

This is the only thread I can think of like that. It shows the Avg pts scored, Avg pts allowed and MOV of all state champions, but Goldthwaite isn't in the top 15 on any of those rankings. Daingerfield '83 is #1 in Defense, and Goldthwaite '85 is #17. That must be what you were remembering.
