I know some officials who are pretty happy the kicker missed 2 times. A huge zebra mistake in the 3d quarter ended up not mattering.

that huge mistake is what gave nevada life. boise st. could have put the game away there. this game wasn't great. it took one player to screw up boise st's season and give nevada the opportunity to win.

Perhaps I was up too late watching this game and wasn't paying close enough attention. What was the zebra mistake? I watched the whole game, but this morning, nothing from the third quarter jumps out at me as being controversial.

Please elaborate.

I didn't see anything in the article about a 3rd quarter call/non-call. Somebody please elaborate on what happened.

Thats about a 14-15 million dollar loss because of those missed field goals

I don't think the Nevada players care.

I watched entire game and I don't remember any questionable officiating calls.
Why at end of game Nevada wasn't playing a 3 deep coverage is beyond me.
If FROGS take care of business its Rose Bowl or NC.

Nevada FG attempt. Kick was blocked behind the line. as ball was bouncing around a Boise State player intentionally batted it in the direction they were headed, i.e. towards the goal line they needed to get to to score. This was flagged as it should have been. Another boise player picked it up and went quite a ways before he was tackled. The penalty was enforced from spot of the foul (Boise's 31) and the ball was given to Boise there (their own 16). What should have been done was Nevada should have retained the ball with a half the distance penalty from prev spot. that would have given Nevada a 1st and goal at the Boise 9.

So this a dead ball as soon as it is batted? What is the penalty assessment then if Nevada had batted it instead of Boise?

Interesting. I never interpreted the loose ball as still being in Nevada's possession.

Thanks for the clarification.

No the bat did not cause the ball to become dead. But this was a foul by the defense during a legal scrimmage kick play . The enforcement spot should have been previous spot. If Nevada had batted it back there behind the line it would have been 15 yard penalty and loss of down.
