Gilmer was up and down all through the game.

They started off nice, but towards the end of the half, they seemed to really slack off and let up.

Then, Gilmer came out strong in the 3rd, and then started to relax again in the 4th and gave up several big pass plays and allowed 2 or 3 TD's in the 4th.

Definitely not their best performance, but the job was done.

Yep. The Buckeyes looked like they let up, especially toward the end of the 3rd quarter. There's a fine line between trying not to run the score up and trying to execute. The Buckeyes took their foot off the throttle too early and let Van get a few big plays in the 4th. At this stage in the playoffs, I prefer to keep the foot on the throttle and not let up until the game is over. I think the young Buckeyes may have learned from this game and, hopefully, won't let that happen again.

Up next: Argyle, 2 PM, Saturday in Ennis! The Buckeyes must put together their best game of the year to win this one. Zero turnovers, flawless execution on offense, pressure and containment on the QB for FOUR quarters is likely what this next game will take for a win. GO BUCKEYES!!!

Congrats to the Bucks. Van made a few plays but not near enough. Thought Van's 2 int's (1 careless bubble screen went for td) and fumble inside our 15 really hurt. Can't give a great team like Gilmer short fields or they will score almost every time. Van probably had 6 stops on D. 2 int's (great tackle by Gilmer's qb), a few punts and the end of the half but Gilmer is very explosive on offense. Not many weaknesses for Gilmer on offense. Defensively Gilmer's secondary may be a concern against an accurate passer. I thought Van would have had more success if they ran the tb's and stayed with it. Fun to see my Vandals play a juggernaut like Gilmer. Good luck to Gilmer the rest of the way.

Got these stats from over on smoaky. Just goes to show stats don't always tell the tale. A lot of Van's stats did come after the game was well in hand but I would argue that the passes which were off target in the 1st half were better in the 2nd half. The receivers were still open and the same db's were playing. Gilmer's offense is fantastic but their defense will need to step it up against Argyle. I think they certainly have the talent to be better defensively.

Congrats to Van junior receiver Colby Rucker 4 catches for 176 yards. He only had 4 catches but I was watching him get open all day and he wore out #8.

Btw, Gilmer did a great job getting multiple blockers on our stud LB. He made a lot of tackles but not until he fought threw blockers and then the ball was 5-10 yards down field.

Your current running back sure reminds me of Justin Johnson the way he runs. Not super fast but a strong runner.
