well it was fun. i think cuero had a wonderful season and overachieved based on the amount of players they had playing this season and the coaching changes. playing toe to toe with an opponent like wimberley is definitely a great achievement. i just can't see cuero's d coming up with another stop.

Great game Cuero; Texans kept it close though with penalties and mistakes. Defensively we really stepped up at times and kept the Gobblers run game in check throughout the whole game, except for the opening drive of the 2nd half. While we could not defend the pass, the interception at end of the game was huge. Also Blakemore's one-handed TD catch was something to see. Now we need to crank it up another notch. We can not look at this game as the game for the regional championship, next two games could go either way. Remember last time we played Cuero in playoffs and won in 2006 we let up the next game and lost to Hondo. Last year we beat a very good Brownwood team and didn't show up for the Graham game. Stay focused, rise to the occasion and remember the next game will be harder than the game before.

Before we move on to the next round, we take this time to salute the Gobblers for a great season.

So true Snaxet...we have been known to let up the following week after a big win. You'd think we wouldnt let it happen again, right? I just don't know which team will show up. However....

Coach Nelms has found a wayto keep the boys in the win column all year, even though we ebb and flow in the middle of the game! Focus seems to be a problem with the boys...then Nelms et al. grab them by the lapells and get them back in it. So, there is reason to believe we will get this fixed for the next few games.

Really good game, both teams played hard. Dumb penalties at crucial times by us allowed Cuero O to stay on the field and they'd capitalize on it. Twice on 4th down we made mistakes, one on an offside on a field goal and another on a roughing the kicker when Cuero had a bad snap and we shouldve blocked it. But we fought through them and I thought our offense did a great job. We drove up and down the field pretty easily all night but we gotta cut down on turnovers, the fumble at the 1 was huge a swing when we could of gone up 14-7. The D played great especially against the run and also did a good job of pressuring Cuero's QB at times. Hats off to Cuero on a great season, always a great game between these 2 schools and we got the pleasure of seeing it twice this year and more than likely it'll be twice next year too.

No one has brought up the most important thing. Cuero was handed the game on a silver platter and didn't take it. The offensive play calling was absolutely terrible all night long and laughable at times.

Quote by Cuero coach Rick Owens says it all for this game and the Texans and just another reason to appreciate what the Texans have accomplished thus far in spite of the adversities but also the class shown and reflected in his comments.

"They have a good ballclub," said Cuero coach Rick Owens. "We knew we were going to have to take some chances with some different things. We just didn't make some plays when they did. But give credit to them. Wimberley went through and overcame as much or more adversity than we did this season."

The other comment he made in that article was the comment I made in the stands last night. The real difference in the game was simply tackling. Wimberley tackled well. Cuero did not tackle well. We had some plays where we did but by and large Wimberley was a much better tackling team than us. Lambert and Wilson got 75% of their yards after contact. Lambert is a big old boy and I understand that but Wilson should have been much easier to bring down with proper technique. In college everybody can tackle. In high school it is what separates teams from those that go home and those that go on.

So true Crabman...so true. Wilson (a junior) is surprising us all, so dont be too disappointed in your teams tackling skills. He performed last night unlike we have seen thusfar. I have not seen a back in Wimberely "move" like him is 4 years. I am not saying he is a Dennis Smith....Dennis will just flat out run you over....but I am saying he has quick feet and speed...and strength. We were all pleasantly surpised by his talent. I think we all know both of our teams strengths are next year...when we will all peak.

I predicted this outcome, if Cuero tried to outscore the Texans in a shootout.

Guess they were not satisfied with Tibby's 6 yard average (9 for 53 yds) and ability to eat the clock. I thought he'd need to carry it about 25-30 times in this one. Thus, shorten the game. Tibby didn't get hurt did he? I seen he got sick last week, but---was told he was 100% this week.

Not sure why Owens went the shootout method. Not sure anyone can outscore Wimberley this route. Plus, Cuero's "D" is their weakest link. The clock was the Gob's opponent in this one.

Thib sustained a shoulder injury in the 1st quarter and wasn't able to go. Physical game that took it's toll on the gobblers. Gobbblers were down to their 5th string running back in the 4th quarter. With Green out of game with a high ankle sprain, Goebel out again, Thib out, Rickman having to get spelled now and then and Bell occasionally getting a spell on offense since he was subbing for Green, Cuero had too many 2 way starters going down which snowballed. Times in the 3rd and 4th quarter Cuero had only QB and TE still in of our 6 skill players.

Think your right, hard to get in a shoot out with Texans. D

Have to give credit to Texans, they played a good clean physical smash mouth football game. Well coached and well disciplined team.
