The games I am concerned with are those decided by a score on the last play as time expired. There have been several that have been close to it but they weren't on the very last play as time clicked off ending the game. Below are UT's six last play victories by scores as time expired:

1. UT 16 Arkansas 14 in 1987. UT has 4 seconds left at Arkansas 18 yard line and is behind 14 to 10. As time expires Bret Staffort completes an 18 yard td pass to Tony Jones for a 16-14 victory. Jones was hit hard as he caught it but still hung on to the ball for the win. The extra point wasn't tried because then only the offense could score on extra points at that time. Ironically this was the first such play.

2. UT 17 Virginia 14 in 1995. UT is behind by 16-14 as time is about to expire. With just time for one play Phil Dawson kicks a 50 yard field goal in a stiff 20mph wind to give UT a dramatic win.

3. UT 44 Iowa State 41 in 1999. Tied at 41 all on the last play Kris Stockton kicks an 18 yard field goal to give us the win and prevent having to go to OT.

4. UT 38 Michigan 37 in 2005 Rose Bowl. With 2 seconds on the clock Dusty Mangum lines up to try a 37 field goal with UT trailing 37 to 37. He kicks the ball and as time expires the ball goes through the upright for the big win on the last play.

5. UT 38 OKlahoma State 35 in 2007. The game is tied 35 all but on the last play Ryan Bailey kicks a 40 yard field goal to win it for UT and prevent haviang to go to OT.

6. UT 13 Nebraska 12 in the Big 12 Championship Game in 2009. UT almost runs the clock out but still has won second left and trailing 12 to 10. Hunter Lawrence kicks a 46 yard field goal to give UT the win on the last play .

The only loss on the last play of the game was to Notre Dame in 1996 as Jim Sanson kicks a 45 yard field goal to beat us 27 to 24. Notre Dame had scored and tied it at 24 all with just under 3 minutes left. I think we turned the ball over if memory is correct and gave them that shot or otherwise we would have had a chance in OT. Of course they might have held us on defense and moved down the field but my memory is faulty .

Another defeat in 1996 that really doesn't qualify was our only OT game with Oklahoma. It was tied 24 and we had the ball first in OT first and kicked a field goal for a 27 to 24 lead. Oklahoma took over and moved the ball and got the winning td with a 2 yard td run by James Allen. This one is just mentioned but doesn't really qualify because it wasn't a last play score as Time expired. Had Allen been stopped short Oklahoma still would have had more chances. Time is not a factor in OT unless you get a delay of game penalty. Even though this one does not qualify it is mentioned for the historical interest.
