Rocket???

While Rocket may bring entertainment to the downlow, I feel it is time to squash the ideal that he represents Brownwood. I have recently joined this forum and certianly enjoy the passion represented here. I am a fan of sports in general and Lions athletics for sure. Please do not judge Brownwood based on Rocket's post here. State championships are earned on the field by great team efforts. My hope is that we display the passion and effort in 2010, if notthen it wasn't earned. Rocket, I know you are passionate, but you do an injustice to your team and town with your tone. Good luck to all in the pusuit of being crowned champion. The journey is brutual and those that acheive it deserve great respect. GO LIONS!

Finally! Thanks Old LB for the post! I couldnt agree more. This is two sided also. I hope the Brownwood fans know that everyone knows they have a very talented team this year and should go all the way. Many of the comments I have made were made taking shots at rocket and few of his buddies.

If the Brownwood Lions can finish off this season undefeated, then I am going to give Rocket all the credit.

He has worked hard ... gotten his popcorn ready (in good ol' Terrell Owens fashion) ... and has done what it takes to win the championship here on the board.

We know Rocket does not represent all of Brownwood.

I have read many of his post on here this board and have decided not to go there, I am pretty sure most everyone on this board knows how good Brownwood is this year however if they were to stumble and lose Rocket would bring some unwanted comments toward Brownwood football. As the saying goes, Act like you have been there. Good Luck to the Loins.

Personally I find rocket amusing. And enjoyable. Yes he is a little "out there" with some of his comments but a great fan usually is. In another thread bobcat fans have tried to explain the faith in the system, and conviction of that faith to the uniniated and it has brought some of the same kind of ferver to their comments. It never hurts to be proud and loud as long as you don't cross the personal attack line IMHO.

Rocket is a fan with great passion and loves to fling the bait out on this board and see which hungry fish gets snagged. Many don't remember the times that he gives cudos to individual players he has seen on other teams because so much of what he says is chum for the Brownwood opponents and possible opponents. I do agree that he sometimes becomes too personal with name calling, but that goes both ways too. I guarantee you that he takes as many insults as he gives.


The Rocket will still be talking trash no matter if his Lions win the championship or not. If they don't, we will have to hear about them beating themselves. Rocket is not nearly the best fan the Brownwood Lions have and is certainly not the voice of Brownwood football--but he could be the "loudest" fan in this forum that allows you to poke out your chest and not worry about somebody crushing your ribs.

Unfortunately, most will not agree with you. I understand the fine line between class and humility, and I have said on many occasions that sometimes I do cross the line. But one man's opinion is not the representation of a team. I am on here to make sure Brownwood does get credit and if they do not, I will go to battle for them. Simple as that...

I know I could be a big butt slapper on here and say good job and everybody is good and so on and so on... but I just state my opinions. Like Tin Cup said, if you take what is said on a messageboard to heart, then you are the one with the bigger problem. Go check out a pep rally this Friday, I am sure more harsh things will be said about the opposing teams than I say. All I am doing is bringing the pep rally to the board and then just talking some smack.

Some people like yourself are from the old school. You don't see this for what it is. It is fun. Like RM said, I have taken as much as I have given and I don't usually let it get personal as far as that goes...I am a good sport. And I eat my crow.

It is funny to talk to some of the coaches from Brownwood about the Downlow. They usually just laugh about me and my hijinx, they don't shun me and ask me to represent them better. If Bob Shipley contacted me and told me to tone it down, I would in a second, but I think this silly board is the last thing on their mind. The players also love to read the responses to us Brownwood posters, it fires them up, because usually it is the haters that are disrespecting the Lions to spite us. Which is silly.

Facts: I have never seen Celina play. I just like to mess with them. bobcat1 is the same with me. It is all in fun.

As I have said before..I love your posts..BUT I do think you hide behind the it is all in fun mantra while at times being really unclassy not to fans, but to the actual schools, kids and coaches.

But I would rather someone like you be here than not be here

I can and will do better in this area. Some of the shots I have taken at people on here were pretty harsh and it wasn't all in fun. No doubt. haha

I appreciate that someone would come on here and seperate them selves from the false bravado the poster you mentioned oozes. In the past I was always a closet Lion fan then yall dropped and that other little guy joined and soured it all for me.

It is funny to talk to some of the coaches from Brownwood about the Downlow. They usually just laugh about me and my hijinx, they don't shun me and ask me to represent them better. If Bob Shipley contacted me and told me to tone it down, I would in a second, but I think this silly board is the last thing on their mind. The players also love to read the responses to us Brownwood posters, it fires them up, because usually it is the haters that are disrespecting the Lions to spite us. Which is silly.

Facts: I have never seen Celina play. I just like to mess with them. bobcat1 is the same with me. It is all in fun.

Old LB, I guarantee you I have done more for the Brownwood Lion program than most and I love them. Represent them? No, I never signed up for that and I do not agree that a messageboard poster is somebody that should do that. Coaches on the other hand are a different story.

I have never met the man and have only seen pictures of him when Garcia is up and running! He Ticked me off many times last year and I felt he was picking on Graham or just didn't like us! That was my first year on here and it took awhile to understand him and where his passion lies!! Rocket supports the Lions if they win or lose, if they were 1-9 it would be because they were disgusted with the competition and will wait till next year when we can get some real teams that will make them want to play hard!!! The coaches take care of that...it is their job to keep the kids grounded and playing well and so far, so good. Brownwood hasn't played down to any team yet, and they domin8 and take care of business every time they step on the field.

The save the date T-Shirts they are selling to raise money for project graduation is just as dangerous... The coaches know the situation with cockiness and are handling it nicely. We have some good players on this year's team. They know what they have to do.

Have you seen the M&G pictures from the Snyder/Brownwood game? :confused: If you had, you could see he didn't have a great grand son that played in the '80's. :D funny post tho.

My dad coached football for 34 years. We moved to Brownwood in 1984 from Big Lake, where my dad was Head Coach for a few years. Gordon Wood hired him to coach girls volleyball and basketball. I never played football. Played basketball with the likes of 91 Lion. Went to HPU and got my degree in Education and coached at Brownwood for 4 years. Steve Freeman (Breckenridge), Darren Allmann and Ted Willmann (Westlake), John Walsh and Mitch Stovall (Denton Guyer), was coached by Sam Harrell (Ennis), and was on a first name basis with Coach Wood and Randy Allen... and my dad is one of the best football minds I have ever been around. So yeah I know a little about and know some men that know a little about the game. Growing up and coaching at Brownwood always helps...

As far as me knowing about football, I am just a thinker and I talk Brownwood Football with some of the best football players to ever suit up for Brownwood (ie. BEAST, Hollywood, and so on)

Also...keep in mind that there is/was several high school, D1-D2 college and NFL coaches who also never put on a helmet. I played for 7 years total, but realize there are non-players out there that are more passionate and knowledgeable about football than I am.

Most current coaches wouldn't..I agree. I am a fan, not a coach. There are some dumb*** coaches that do come on this board and try to talk smack and mix it up with fans. Which I agree, is very stupid.

I blur the lines between bragging and having fun. And you can see it how you like to see it. To each his own...
