No poll, just looking for some comments.

Same formula, different opponent.

As long as Gilmer doesn't turn the ball over, we shouldn't have a problem beating Van.

But, Canton shouldn't have beat us in 2005 and Liberty-Eylau shouldn't have beat us in 2006.

Talking with my B-i-L, they have been really focused and really wanting to make it to at least the regional finals for a chance at Carthage again.

I think Gilmer will roll into a matchup against Argyle or Prosper.

I try not to go by scores, but...............Spring Hill 38 Van 7 ................and Gilmer 76 Spring Hill 0 has to say a little something. I was really proud of the way the kids played last night under some adverse conditions. They kept the focus even after falling behind 2 TD's in the first 3 minutes. We seem to be playing well at the right time.

Not to mention there was a very good crowd in a driving rainstorm. The crowd was loud and stayed throughout. I was proud of our fans. The Buckeyes look like a team that has something to prove. They are focused and playing the best ball they have all year. It helps that they are healthy (except for two all-state starters from last year that are out for the season), and are not turning the ball over like they were earlier in the year. If the Buckeyes stay focused, don't let the turnover bug bite, and execute like they have been, they'll be a tough out for anybody. I say the Buckeyes will likely beat Van relatively easily if they do the above.

I think it'd be quite amusing if the final was against Madison instead. I watched the Buckeyes focus on wanting to get back at Carthage for almost an entire year and then all of a sudden finding out there was no chance they'd play them. They instantly lost much of the significance of their team motto.

At least with "Gap Soldiers" it's vague enough as a term to mean a number of things and is not tied to a particular opponent.

The fixation on Carthage is understandable, but I still think it'd be funny if the same thing happened to a lesser degree this time. And Madison might be easier to beat in the final. Probably not, though. I DO go on record right now saying Gilmer WILL BE in the Region II final.

I hate making excuses but Van had losses against Crandall and Spring Hill in which they were really banged up plus had tons of kids with staff (was on the news b/c it was the MSRA strain). Van does not have the depth to overcome not having all hands on deck. Van was healthy last night and beat Crandall 42-21. They played their best players both ways in the 2nd half and shut out Crandall scoring 35 straight points. Obviously Crandall is not Gilmer but I think Van can put 11 on the field which will complete. Having said that though to just stay in the game Van is going to have to play mistake free, have some things go their way, have a great game plan and not wear down playing mostly their best 15 or so players. Big mountain to climb for the Vandals but two yrs. ago Van shocked a good Pitt team by dominating them in Rd. 2 so you never know what will happen until you play the game. Certainly can't go into the game expecting to get destroyed or that is what will happen....lol

I'm hearing Sat. 3pm in Tyler is that correct?

Gilmer has gotten healthier and found themselves in the past few weeks. They will be no bump in the road for anybody from here on out. They play with purpose and poise and do not give up at any diversity that may come their way. 12 points down to a good LE team and they fight through it. Congratulations to Van on their win. I see Gilmer moving playing at least two more weeks and at that point, all teams deserve to be playing that late in the year and anything can happen. This team is going to accomplish more than anyone expected them to. Get your Popcorn Ready!

We all know Gilmer is a pipeline for college football players. They will definately have Van out athleted with their depth at the skill positions. All those Gilmer receivers have me more than a little concerned. However, Van does have athletes and the best college prospect will likely be wearing Vandal red. Whoever lines up in front of this guy on offense and defense is likely going to have a long day regardless of the scoreboard. Big, fast and nasty. Plays LB & OT.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Dalton-Santos-109994

Van has a 1st year head coach from Denton Ryan. Spread team with a smallish but quick athlete at qb. Mostly a running team (threw 6 passes vs. Crandal). Had over 400 yrds. rushing last game. Two pretty good Rb's, 1 is fast, 1 is small but is a tough, strong runner who also plays DE. Strength of the team is probably our lines. If Gilmer forces Van into having to pass instead of Van passing when they want to, it'll be a long night. Van really hasn't played a team yet with more team speed. That will change on Sat. Their main problem is a lack of a consistant passing game and defending the pass without playing guys both ways. No way Van can defend Gilmer's receivers with the corners who started the game against Crandal. If they can't handle Crandal's receivers I don't even want to think about what Gilmer will do to them. Like I said in an earlier post the coaches made the change at the half and Crandal didn't score again. Hopefully they send Santos to get after Mr. Turner.

Just thought I'd give you Gilmer folks more info on the Vandals. It's always more fun when you know a little about who your playing.

Going with the Buckeyes , really a classy program. I still think the 2009 state championship was played in the semis last year in HUNTSVILLE. I will always remember that classic game.

Amen! That goal line stand at the end of the game was a gut wrencher on both sides! Both teams definitely SC caliber!

Look, it's Gus Johnson's long-lost twin brother, Michael Terry:

The resemblance is pretty amazing. I found it here:

Actually, the paper messed up that is RB/DE Corey Fuller. #21 Michael Terry is our starting TB but that ain't him.

Of course you're right. But Corey Fuller does--in that photo, at least.

For those of you I don't send text updates to, Gilmer leads 29-7 at the half.

Gilmer won the toss and elected to receive and Van's defense forced Gilmer to punt on their 1st possesion. On the 2nd play of Van's drive, Darrion Pollard returned an INT on a perfectly read screen pass for a TD.

Gilmer went on to take a 29-0 lead before Van went on a 81-yard scoring drive right before halftime helped by a couple of untimely penalties by Gilmer.

Van has been a 1-man army with their QB doing almost all of the damage. However, he has only completed 3 or 4 (if that) passes and has missed badly on several occassions. They (he) has been able to move the ball decently against Gilmer's defense. Several times Gilmer should have had the QB in the backfield but he would escape and pick up decent yardage.

Gilmer has started looking sloppy after their last TD put them up 29-0. Hopefully Jeff has pulled them back down to earth for the 2nd half or we could see Van make a come back.

Buckeyes better step it up. Van can come back on ya.

poisoned10

Van received the 2nd half kickoff and fumbled over to Gilmer on their 2nd play.

Luke Turner then scored on a 12-yard run on Gilmer's 2nd play.

Gilmer - 36
Van - 7

Hopefully they will coast on to a win now. That should take the wind out of Van's sails.

Gilmer forces a 3 and out and later scored on a 21-yard reverse.

With 8:36 left in the 3rd:

Gilmer - 43
Van - 7

poisoned10
11-20-2010, 05:35 PM
Again, Gilmer is getting VERY lazy and VERY sloppy. They have given up several big pass plays on defense and Luke has thrown his 2nd INT of the game.

Van has the ball and is driving with 8:31 left in the 4th.

Gilmer - 43
Van - 20

poisoned10
11-20-2010, 06:42 PM
Final Score:

Gilmer - 50
Van - 27

Gilmer will face Argyle at 2 pm in Ennis.
