Multiple fouls on the play. Illegal snap (2 different problems with the snap 1 - ball was held momentarily in the air before QB took it and 2 - The EB was lined up as a lineman instead of as a back at the snap) Unsportsmanlike conduct for using the ball and communication with the sideline to make it appear the snap is not imminent.

How can there be anything wrong with the snap?

Have you ever seen the swinging gate? I wonder how they get the ball to the up man behind the gate? They swing it to him!:D

What makes the snap illegal is that the snapper does not move the ball and have it leave his hand immediately. He holds it up momentarily. It is the same reason why the snapper cannot snap the ball back between his legs and hold it up against his butt while the QB goes one ddirection, apparently with the ball , and then another player takes the ball off the butt and runs the other direction. Also, the snap cannot go to a lineman. Since the QB was not lined up "under center", but was up in the line, he was, by definition, a lineman. A lineman cannot receive the snap.

he took the snap from under center....a defensive guy could have come over and pummeled him. This play is no different than a guy taking the snap and running towards the sidelines with the ball over his head. ;)

This is called the wrong ball play and the rules prohibit using equipment (i.e. the ball) to deceive opponents. If they tried running either of these plays without saying anything, the defense would have been all over them.

So then a fake pitch on an option or a fake spike during the 2-minute drill are also illegal then, right?

No Those are very different. They involve actual football and not unsportsmanlike conduct. Furthermore, neither of those are designed to confuse the opponent into thinking the snap is not imminent.
