This game should be a good one, but I think Snyder has way too much speed. Snyder 35-21.

We have one young man that has 8, two with just 5, one with 3 and three with 1 each, but they promised to pick up the pace during the playoffs so we'll put them to the test against Snyder and see what happens.

Speed is good, unless you have " Bobby Boucher", and we will be putting a little extra gun powder in his feed bowl this week ! :D

I'll put up this, you beat Graham and make it to the quarterfinals against us, I'll wear the Tiger shirt to the game, if you lose to Graham or before the quarterfinals, you get to "Bow Down" to the Rocket under the Scoreboard next year; who ever he is, I dont know him, but you seem to have this fascination with him.

Good luck in the playoffs, I am pulling for our district second, and the Brownwood Lions first!

Well now enjoyed the stabbing back and forth thanks for the qudos and my opinion says we have more than one Bobby Bouche
and they will be coming often. Steers have started playing like a team as of late and hope to see them more in the postseason. Steers by 14 ( 35-21 ) good luck to them Lions and Hawks this week. :D

Grahams D will have to come up huge for them to win on Thurs. If we can get a couple of early turnovers that give us good field position, we will have a shot. I think overall the team is looking great, but the O still needs to pick it up to make a deep run!

We beat wylie by 3 but they're not the same team this year. They went 3-2 in district and that's what I was saying. Not a typical year for Wylie by no means.

That's just it....most of the people who really know and follow Sweetwater football expected their 2010 season to be a building season, as well. I don't think you will find too many Sweetwater folks who expected much more than what they got this season, BUT they are supporting their boys and their coach and looking forward to next season.

Snyder is giving up just 12 points per game this year in 9 games (not counting Brownwood, but including 43 to Monahans). Their Defense will stop Graham also. No disrespect to Graham I have been impressed with what you have done this season.

Snyder is good and were not overlooking that! I don't know who will win ANY game, but I do belive it won't be a runaway on either side.

This is the most balanced offense that Snyder has ever had. They are able to mix the run with some potent passing. IMO, Snyder has never been able to do this with a lot of success. Snyder has a very talented QB, and some powerful weapons to use along with him. Not only can the QB burn you down field with his feet or his arm, but any one of the other 3 backs are very capable of breaking the long run. If you key in on the run, they'll burn you with a long pass. The defense has really stepped up and is playing very well. Looking forward to Thursday's game.

I pick Graham in a close one, I have seen over the past couple years you do not count the steers out of any game they are very well disciplined and have a great coaching staff that figures out ways to win games, and I will say you will not find many teams that play with heart like the graham steers.

Sure. I am comparing Bwd vs Graham and Bwd vs Snyder, and Bwd to Sweetwater and Snyder to Sweetwater, and Bwd to Wylie and Snyder to Wylie.

I feel like Snyder has a more explosive team with QB Ward, than does Graham. Snyder is on the verge of breaking a big play at any time. The talent of that QB is amazing. Better pay close attention there! I think Brownwood had to work harder to get control over the Snyder game than we had to work over Graham.

I also saw Snyder play Sweetwater. To me, Snyder actually played Sweetwater better than did Bwd. Snyder's motivation level was very high in that game; Bwd had just come off a bye-week when we played Sweetwater, but that's not really a good excuse to play so unmotivated.

Snyder also did a good job with Wylie, as did Brownwood, so I think Snyder is improving week to week and they sure did not like that stomping Brownwood gave them. Seems like it has got them on the move.

Guess we can see if I'm right sometime Friday night.

This is an interesting matchup with two very good teams that are much more even than people think. Very surprised to see a point spread as high as 14. The strength of snyder is their offense while the strength of graham is their defense. I know that people are really high on snyder as well they ought to be, but my gut says that there are many who aren't giving the steers the credit they deserve. I think this could be a much better game than many think and very could well surprise people with the outcome.

I am one of the band directors in Graham. I talked to the ref after the game to find out what we did. The thing that we play when the other team has the ball if front of us is a song...it is not noise. It is just LOUD. We "borrowed" it from Abilene Wylie...they play it too...and they "borrowed" it from another school. It is something we have played every game...never once was they a problem.

Snyders band (who is awesome by the way) were playing when we had the ball in front of them, so who knows. I just want to stress that it was not "random noise". But on the flip side...I was on the sidelines...the play was about to start...we were cranked up with the MUSIC...and the ref came over and warned the coach to back us off..He looked at me, and I turned around to back them off. Before I could, they snapped the ball, and threw the flag...I didn't even have time to stop the band.

Oh well....you live and you learn.

Texas HS football falls under NCAA rules.
Rule 9 Section 2 Article 2
It goes under Unsportsmanlike Conduct Fouls.

Rule 1-1-6 "Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals"

The offense must have the opportunity to call plays.
I've seen some NFL games where the QB will go up to the line of scrimmage and look at the white hat and ask for help due to crowd noise. Again, the offense must have the opportunity to call their plays.

Tromboneking, I know the song you are referring to and I actually noticed when we played Graham this season that y'all were playing it, too. That is the same song that Coach Rogers complained to the refs about when we played them in 2009, but no penalty was given. Maybe Rogers just doesn't like that style of music.

While we are on the topic of bands . . .

Last week,
the guest band played for 20 of the 28 minutes at half-time.
Home band was finishing up an abbreviated program with a minute left in the half when the guest football team entered the field and guest band played fight song OVER the end of Home band's program.

No penalty, but also No Class.

Wow, what a game! Hats off to Snyder as they got the job done. Cant say enough about Graham and the way they played though! They showed alot of heart and should be proud. I think the real momentum shift in this game is when the penalty was called for excessive noise. That 15 yard penalty just killed our defense. I think the refs were almost forced to throw that penalty after the previous drive by snyder led to 3 false start penalties. Sad that an excessive noise penalty changed the game like that. All in all great game and hats off to Snyder as they showed alot of class after the game!!

Deuce, I agree...however...

My problem is how it was handled. We have been playing that same thing for TWO years...we played itin the State Championship game last year...and never ONCE has there been a problem. Secondly, had they given me time to quiet the kids down I would have....I was in the process of when they threw the flag. But I hate to say this, because I love the Steers as much as anyone, but the band did NOT cost them that game. They played against a great Snyder team. Graham did everything well....Snyder did too...

The Snyder band was playing just as much when we were in front of them...we got called and they didn't.

In most offenses the QB gives a hand signal when to snap the ball, pretty sure that is the case with snyder. The coach was momentum(:bigcry:) trying to take the band playing out of the scenario to disrupt the STEERS momentum, but that's not the reason for the loss, SNYDER played a great game. Congrats to the STEERS for making the playoffs in spite of a rebuilding year, good luck to SNYDER in the playoffs. Graham will be back next year and for several to come.

I think the difference was that the Snyder band would play a SONG. The band can play loud , they just cant play a couple of different notes intended to just be loud. If you noticed those couple of notes got loud when the play was about to start and then got quiet inbetween plays. This is exactly what the rule is for. They should have just picked a song and Played.

Not saying the band cost us the game. It should have been handled differently by the refs. There should have been time given to relay messages to all involved. Instead the ref walked right back onto field and resumed play in about a 5 second span. I am just saying that momentum shifted when the penalty was given, it was not the bands fault that they were not given enough time to slow it down. We had the same chance in OT to score as did they, but it just wasnt in the cards!

Magic...define a song.

So the argument is that if we had played the Fight Song loudly, and the team couldn't hear the snap count that would be ok? That seems a hypocritical......

The thing we played has a melody, harmony, rhythmic pulse, dynamics, a tempo....

And lets see...we borrowed it from Wylie...Wylie borrowed it from Everman...who knows where Everman got it from.

And the Snyder melody they played...Monahans played last year.

Please understand one thing...we were simply trying to help our team win a game...pure and simple. No malace was meant, we were not trying to be rude or obnoxious...we were simply doing what we had done for the last two years. If the penalty hurt the team, I and the band apologize.

We were simply trying to do our job...the reason HS band are at football games to begin with.

One comment, according to two Steers fans I visited with at the half this wasn't the first time that this had happened. According to them, you were warned three times in one prior game.

That was my question, I saw your occupation and your answer and these guys have players on the team so I know you would both be at the games. Don't quote me please, but I think they said it happened in the Iowa Park game maybe? Not being critical, just curious. I stood in the north end zone and I'll have to say the noise level from the Graham side was awesome.

Its very simple IMO. Last night the Graham band started playing a couple of notes basicaly over and over. BUT ontop of that they would play lightly inbetween plays but would get as loud as they could right before the snap and then tone it down again between the next two plays then get loud again when its time to snap the ball again. Its clear what was going on and the reason for the loud playing. The rule is the rule. Like holding, jumping offsides or blocking in the back. We insist the rules be followed Just like if we have a guy being held.

LOL, that's funny!

Snyder should have just sent Johnny Depp over there, that would have shut 'em up.

The Band at a High School Football Game is there to pump up the crowd and the players, they entertain WITH MUSIC at the half!! RSB3 hats off, yall did a Great job last night. again find a song with "music" and bring me the bill !! We need the bands support during football and we are willing to help yall help us!!!
We were warned 3 times during the IP game but never flagged, the refs just got tired of saying it and all it did was pump up the crowd anyways, they snapped the ball and we stopped!! AS it should be, it's TEXAS Friday night football!! Go STEERS !!:cheerl:

Well with that being the case yall's offensive line held pretty well, yall blocked in the back, and one of your players speared one of our players in the back and was taken to the hospital. Plain and simple your team false started 3 times in a row and your coach cried to the officials about it. The REFS never gave our Coach or Band Director a chance to calm them down. Bands are a BIG part of the Team and Fans SPIRIT.....In short your coach worked the officials. Quit whining about whether the band was playing music or not. Next time we'll play our fight song all game long loud and soft. Just go and cheer for your team like some of the other posters that are on here like to do. They really enjoy those young men on that team and that's the way it should be. Da hop, skins, injured good luck to yalls team in the playoffs.

Kinda hard to hear a snap count when the opposing teams band chooses to just blare the horns right in those few seconds. Why didnt they keep playing that loud between plays too????? I will tell you and you already know. Because they could not keep that up and the only reason to get louder for the snaps was to try to make it difficult for them to hear the snap count THATS why. Plain and simple its the rule... Like anyother. dont make an excuse. BTW. Snyder and Graham both had holding penalties. Snyder had more called on them though but both were called.

If I'm not mistaken the refs may have said something to the coaches and not to the band directors. It really dosen't matter bands are a big part of the high school tradition at football games. You and your staff are doing a GREAT JOB, keep up the good work. All the way RSB3.:cheerl:

That was during the Homer..uh I mean Iowa Park game where the Refs warned us!! Now I'm pretty dang old and have seen a lot of football games and I have never seen this done at a high school game before, we thought it was cool, and that the refs were just homies with IP. Never thought I would see it again, and BAM !! Right to the moon Alice!!! It was fun and I hope we do it again! If they go ahead and snap the ball we'll quit! Or if they can hold out long enough we'll run out of air !!
I sure hope more people want their bands playing LOUD and PROUD than want MOOD music at a football game!! And now our band will play our fight song in D-minor...LOL that would suck!!!

The Band rule is a NCAA rule, and Texas highschool football goes by NCAA rules. The Graham coach was warned and didnt stop the band from playing. This rule is more for 400 piece college bands then a 40 piece highschool band, but we follow NCAA rules so I dont fault the white hat at all.The only complaint I have is that after this happened the Snyder band started doing the same thing. And if I was the White Hat I would have called delay of game instead of unsportsman like so that something silly didnt affect the game as much.
