MESQUITE---Forney didn't make the playoffs, but it finished it season on an astounding note, stunning West Mesquite at Mesquite Memorial Stadium in the regular-season finale.

Forney (3-7, 2-6) trailed, 20-7, at the half but managed to trim the lead to five entering the fourth quarter. Forney tied the game at 29 with 8:16 left after Villareal raced 77 yards for a touchdown and then completed a 2-point conversion pass to Patrick Youngman.

O'Neal Blanton gave Forney the lead on a 40-yard run with 3:15 remaining. West Mesquite (8-2, 6-2) scored with 2:25 left to play, as Trevone Boykin connected with Greg Thurmond on a 55-yard bomb.

West Mesquite, rather than choosing to tie the game, decided to go for the lead, but Boykin's 2-point conversion pass was batted down. Forney managed to run out the clock, converting a fourth down in the process with a 4-yard run by Lesley Booker.

Villareal rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Forney's hard-hitting defense made plays all night long, but it couldn't put total clamps on West Mesquite's Trevone Boykin, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns and also threw for 280 yards and a score.
