For the first time since my senior year in 1977, the Granbury Pirates wrapped up a playoff spot. Shaking off a 33 year playoff drought is an awesome relief and an end to a rough stretch of futility. Maybe this can be the start of something good for the Pirate football program for the future.

Pugh has done an awesome job in Granbury! If they can beat Summit I believe they'll be the top D1 seed

The Pirate Nation will go crazy with a playoff berth. Good luck Pirates! A playoff win would be the first since 1967 I believe. The Pirates lost in bi-district in '68, '76 & '77. If I am wrong . . . somebody please correct me.

Was a special night here last night. Actually, the 1987 Pirates made the playoffs.

For some reason, the Hook County News doesn't recognize the 1987 team though for some odd reason.

Regardless, it will be a special week this week and next. Since we are there we might as well win some! Bring on Midway or Killeen.

I looked at that stuff too. It is weird and I dont understand why some sites dont have it. My friend finally sent me articles from 1987 (might have been 1988) that had clippings and newspaper articles from their playoff appearance. If you want I can send them to you.

I was out in West Texas in '87 so I don't know what was going on in Pirate Nation at that time. But my parents and sister were still in the area and I would have thought they would have remembered.

Yeah, I figured since you were from here you would be able to explain why they don't credit that year. I have clippings from both the Hood County News and Star-Telegram in my inbox. Might have to send them over to the sports editor to see what the deal is.

Did they actually play a playoff game? Who did they play? Did they qualify for the playoffs and have the UIL snatch a playoff berth from them? What's the scoop?

In 1987 Granbury was in a District that had two zones...there was a week 11 zone playoff.......Granbury played Everman and lost 45-14....it was an 11th game but it was not a UIL playoff appearance

Thats the explanation we have been looking for. I have articles from Hood County News and the Star-Telegram saying Granbury clinched a spot in the playoffs.

I am familiar with zone setups, but thought that they always occured as the 10th game with the number ones from each zone playing each other, the number twos playing each other, etc.

I know for a fact it was game #11 for Everman....

Here is the only proof I can find online. It does say a "zone" game was the eleventh game. Like I said earlier, I thought the zone finals were always played the 10th game of the season, not the 11th. Guess it was different before my time seeing as how I was only 4 years old back then.
