I was having a little fun yesterday. I hope no one gets offended. I tried to be as neutral as possible even though I know where my alligiance lies.

Tell me what you think and if anyone has any ideas I can try to make up more for subjects as passionate as this one was.

the UglyMaroon titles are all from the time when only 1 team got to the playoffs - once that changed it has been proven for DECADES that lots of teams are better than UM around the state.....

This was hilarious. Had to put this on facebook so all my "friends" in the North Texas area could see. The 1/2 State Championship and the reference to the Powder Puff schedule was golden. You know I was thinking the other day if part of the duties of the Quarterback Club members in Celina was that they have to mention they have 8 SC a minimum of 10 times a day in any conversation. So like in the morning when you wake up it "Hi honey. How'd you sleep last night? Celina has 8 SC" or at the grocery store ask the stockboy where are the Beanie Weinies and Celina has 8 SC.

That was too funny. It's a good thing Celina's big ole 500 and something enrollment didn't get to go D2 against an 800 and something enrollment Brownwoid. They would have learned how to speak a Champion's name. Realistically by going D2 Brownwoid will be facing teams with half their enrollment. So kinda like 4A versus 3A. It will be all well and good until they take on a Region 2, 3 or 4 team. Then there will be gnashing of teeth by the moroon loyalty. I can hear it now, we got screwed by the refs or if..... and if...... Same as the last 2 years. Yawn.

That is pretty funny. I hate all the Celina bologna everyone always talks about. Glen Rose would be good too if we recruited kids to come play football and tell them to take roids. We lost to them in 2007 in the state quarterfinals, farthest we have ever gone, and they beat us pretty bad...70-21:( BUT I had a Celina football player in one of my college classes and he said they all did roids that year. What a dynasty. lol

Celina does not deserve of all the recruiting and roiding accusations. Both are illegal and IF Celina were doing this like you imply, then some undercover reporter would have found your "Celina football player" and blown the whistle just like the QB in Southlake!

There are hundreds of losers that had their arses smoked that are looking for excuses for how their team had 70+ hung on them. They just can't accept that they are not that good, don't work that hard, and don't BELIEVE that they can beat Celina.

Celina will give you nothing. You have to earn it, Glen Rose was scared to death and cheered their rare visit to the playoffs with the realization that they drew Celina and in their heads before the game ever started they were down a couple of scores. Daingerfield and Carthage didn't think that way and Celina is beatable (as is Brownwood) but still had the toughest games of their seasons even though THEY had the better athletes.

Are all Celina kids home grown? No, success brings attention and many like me factor athletic success as an important part of an overall High School experience. I chose to move my family to Celina from Frisco for a bunch of reasons (in middle school). I drove right past Prosper to do so for a bunch of reasons. No one from Celina recruited us or even spoke a word to me until the day I visited the school. From that moment on we have always felt welcome. Will Celina get an occasional move in? Sure, we get the occasional move out as well. We even released a starter to Prosper a couple of years ago as it was what was best for the kid at the time. If you really know the behind the scenes stuff, even you would defend this team and these coaches against baseless accusations like yours. Sorry for getting pissed, I kinda wished we did recruit and roid at times!

Here is our roided out and recruited Senior class. We recruited that # 1 kid up front (has started in 2 State Championship games and has a ring) from a lemonade stand in '99. Most of these boys have been playing together since elementary school.

If you were picking teams in street clothes many of these boys would be picked last and that would be a mistake.

GR, I think a team with that much success would be under a microscope. Also being in the Metro-plex area there would be plenty of so called investigative reporters that would be all over that story. I've heard it about Stephenville when they were rolling and even.....yes Brownwood.

I'm sure there are cases all over the State. I'm also sure that there are occasions where a kid is going to try something, however I don't think there is a coach today who would get involved in organized steroid use.

Success brings these things with it.

I don't think they recruit, I just don't think they can count.
IMO, for years they stayed 2A when they probably should have been 3A.

JK :D ...........but seriously when Goldthwaite played them the last time in the 2A playoffs we had 27 kids suited up and Celina had 70 something.

Celina has a tradition of inviting freshman and JV players that worked hard on the freshman and JV teams to suit up and stand on the sidelines during the playoff games. The UIL has a limit on the number of kids that can be on the sidelines and Celina meets that limit every year. I love this traidition and the boys work hard to get the invite and feel honored to stand on the sidelines. They also love forming that long line 60+ boys united on the field during the coin toss. Many of our opponents have never seen anything like that. If you ever see Celina in the playoffs again, note there will be several kids with the same numbers standing in that line.

Alot of schools do this, it helps get the underclassmen a taste of the playoff atmosphere. And it is a nice reward for the kids he work hard on scout team for the varsity.

IMO, for years they stayed 2A when they probably should have been 3A.

JK :D ...........but seriously when Goldthwaite played them the last time in the 2A playoffs we had 27 kids suited up and Celina had 70 something.

The other factor is participation. Celina has approximately 250ish males in grades 9-12. Each year 130-150 of them play on one of 4 teams.

As far as I know the only requirement for moving up for the playoffs is being willing to keep coming to practice each day after your teams season is over. I would bet 100+ are on the sideline for a playoff game.

UIL/NCAA 2010 rules: “Each team is limited to 60 persons in its team area, not including squad members”.

You think this would be enforced without someone raising the issue?

Coach Moore knew the rule. Coach Ford does too. When My kids played for Moore, they knew there was a limit. But I've never counted.

I chose to move my family to Celina from Frisco for a bunch of reasons (in middle school). I drove right past Prosper to do so for a bunch of reasons.

Love the cheap shot to Prosper in your argument. We are glad you passed right on by. FUNNY!

Love the cheap shot to Prosper in your argument. We are glad you passed right on by. FUNNY! We are glad he did too. Have you seen those Monsters he grew and is growing at his house? We visited Prosper too but chose Celina back when we moved closer to the metromess for my job. Glad we did. You just can't beat the coaches and the fans at Celina. They took us right in.

That's great. I know a lot of good people from Celina and yes they are passionate for their football program. Not so much in basketball...:) They also have a lot of idiots there but we have plenty of those in Prosper too.

The choice had nothing to do with school or sports. When we heard the comment from some locals that Prosper wanted to be Highland Park North, we just kept on going. Not so much the Highland Park type. After that they passed the new school bond election and stuck the residents with 750MM in taxes due.

I do like your CVS and Palio's. Could you get us a few more restaurants and maybe a Wal-mart with all that extra money you guys have?

If I am not mistaken which I could be the NCAA rule is only for travel I want to say I have seen well over 60 on the sidelines for homes games. I have never heard of that rule for UIL.

Now you're going to get the Celina folks to stop shopping at Wal-Mart with talk like that. They've already all closed their accounts at American Bank over the billboard....

I don't believe the 60 rule mentions travel. Just field rules. The JV and Freshmen only get to be on the sidelines during the playoffs anyway, that's all travel. The 60 rule applys to the people not on the squad. Counting the squad, that can put the number on the sideline well above 60. The rule is an NCAA rule. The UIL uses those rules for football play and their own UIL rules for safety, enrollments, number of divisions, medals awarded based on size of schools, etc.

I knew somebody would bring up the participation point.
Just like Celina, we have a majority of our boys go out for football, we just don't have the numbers. Of course a few years after we played Celina last, we dropped to 1A and they moved up to 3A.
We always move up a select few from our JV squad when we go to the playoffs, just not all of them. This year it will be interesting to see how many JV players we have move up for the playoffs since we have a fairly large JV team that has had a good season. Their only loss came to 5A Copperas Cove.
The reason I know Celina had 70 something suited up was I use to have the program from the game that I saved.
Anyway, I'm not picking on Celina, just making a point.
I have nothing but respect for the Pumpkin Kids.
