View Full Version : Most dominating TXHS 3A team in history?

Rocket says this year's BW team. I'm still inclined to go w/ the 1983 Daingerfield Tigers

16-0

State champs

631pts for
8pts against

Rumor has it those 8 points were NOT scored on the defense. They came from 1 pick 6 and a safety?

Beat that Rocket! :D

Laughable to even consider Brownwood as the greatest team in history when they haven't accomplished anything yet. As of right now they're just another 3A spread team racking up tons of points with some good players, we have seen this plenty of times. Some of those teams have won titles, some have not.

I would throw in a top ten vote for the 1995 Sealy team that finished 16-0 and had a kicker that scored more points than all 16 of their opponents combined. Unfortunately, I never got to see that '83 Daingerfield team and likely won't see this years Brownwood group unless they end up playing Sealy in the playoffs (unlikely). The PF/PA stat is always an interesting indicationof a dominating defense, but different coaches take different approaches, some clearing the bench during blowouts and some not choosing (or not having the number of players needed) to do so. That can affect the PA number significantly.

Not true. Carthage scored on a pass play. Daingerfield won 10-6. Carthage went on to 4A Semifinals that year.

I was at that game. Sinton was ALL OVER them until it started raining and Sinton abandoned the passing game. Was frustrating to watch.

6 points by defense running back an interception...2 points on a touchback. The team had numerous Div 1 & 3 or 4 NFL.

Well whoopty freakin' doo... I bet Brownwood 2010 could give them all they wanted... They didn't have to account for complex spread attacks. Much different game.

Let me help Rocket out . The Dangerfield Defense had 560 plays run against them in 16 ball games for a grand total of 560 feet. In other words every play run gained 12 inches. Not sure, but only two teams made past the fifty yard line. No team 5a on down will ever be that good again. I got to see them play and it is something a person will never forget. So no Rocket this years Brownwood team is no where near as good as Dangerfield 83.

I have to ask..have u seen Bwood this year?

Yes I think the 83 D-Field team would win..but I also think Bwood present problems a 1983 HS football team would not.

I would submit that the Brownwood team of 65 was possibly better than this Brownwood team. Also, the undisputed best had to be 83 Dangerfield. Why not wait until the season at least makes it to the FIRST ROUND of the playoffs before starting this thread. Talk about putting the cart before the horse. This year's Brownwood team is no doubt a fine squad but let them go 16-0 before EVEN beginning to compare them to the great 3D squads of the past.

Two off that team played in a super bowl, what do you think. I would say they are better. We are not talking about a normal high school football team. Go and watch the tape that is on U-tube. You will see they were years ahead of the time. They were big, very fast and strong.

They were pretty good. No doubt. I just think it would have been interesting to see how they would do in today's world. With so many changes to the game. Not saying Brownwood would beat them, may not come close, but coaching and play calling and execution can wreck havoc on any team, no matter who they are.

I would just like to add that several of the coaches off that team are still coaching today and doing quite well I might add.... including the head coach. They have seen the "New" spread offense and understand how to defend them. Nothing leads me to believe that they wouldn't have been able to figure it out then.

When you discuss speed of todays game... let me compare then and now. The secondary of that team won the mile relay that year at state running a 3:16. The biggest guy on that defense was Guy Searcy who weighed a whopping 205 and played defensive end. One of the defensive tackles played 4 years at linebacker in college. Speed was everywhere. The slowest kid on the field on defense was Tim Lipham and he ran a 4.7. Their speed was unmatched at that time.

Daingerfield was fortunate enough to have a group of athletes come through at the same time that were driven and uniquely talented. Speed everywhere and the uncanny drive to take it as an insult to give up a yard. They were truly special. Never be another group like them.... face it, someone has to be the best ever and they are the stick all 3A teams will be measured by for eternity.

Brownwood may turn out to be a great and dominant team....but NO ONE will ever come close to those numbers.
