In any OTHER year I'd say Sweeny, but the Necks are motivated and Sweeny seems to have lost a step from recent years. Gimme the Necks for the win and the Dist. champs.

As discussed in another thread....it will shape up something like this:

WC -vs- Rockport-Fulton
Needville -vs- Ingleside
Sinton -vs- Sweeny

OR

WC -vs- Sinton
Needville -vs- Ingleside
Sweeny -vs- Mathis

If I'm not mistaken

Needville/IHS Sweeny/Mathis could flipflop depending on upcoming games.

Hopefully he gets his medical redshirt.

I don't really understand the coaching decisions since then. Broadway wins his first game, then the next game you start the other Freshman and we get beat pretty bad? Piland might be putting up better stats, but Broadway was winning for us.

I'm sure that didn't make sense to you.

Go Coogs.

Hey now, that was a solid come-from-behind win for Sweeny vs the Sharks. And that after their last-minute, goal line stand, 5 pnt win over that powerhouse Wharton team. I'm sure they are brimming with confidence. An interesting quandry for the blue dogs, do they plan for a plan for a Columbia fashion show that is all stripes & patterns, or will their ensemble include any Flannel?

They pretty much abused our beat up secondary and used trick plays (wr reverse pass to Wilkerson and a fake fg pass to Wilkerson both for tds) to inflate their score. I'll be very surprised if Sweeny scores more than 28.

WC has a new trick play this week involving the freakishly quick QB. Something about now he not only snaps to himself, passes to himself, but now is also lead blocking for himself. Yep. When he encounters a defender, he tosses the ball in the air to precisely 8 feet, 4 inches blocks the defender out of the play, goes back and gets the rock, and proceeds to the end zone. Apparently the shake and bake resulting in socks, shoes, and broken ankles all over the field was getting mundane.

. They use to run trick plays with the goal of getting first downs. Now they are out for pay dirt with every trick play.

The moment you have all been waiting for is finally here!!!! After 3 (maybe 4) years on the Downlow sidelines, the one and only Neck_06 has made his return to make his prediction for this week's "Battle of the Brazos."

The Necks have fast kids. Fast kids that make Sweeny's fast kids look....not fast. Therefore they will win. 37-28. Prediction over. See you all in 3 years or so.

WC beat Sweeny in 2008, my senior year, score was 17-10, woulda been lot worse, but i believe our qb threw atleast 3 ints, which he had a habbit of doing that season. in all years I played from jh to varisty, the only time our team i was on lost to sweeny was when i was a junior and didnt play significantly, and that year was also more like the Sweeny Tank Carders, and the year sweeny flipped the lights out on us as we were driving for the game tieing/winning score(dont ,member wich one it was)

They must be hanging out with the half of Columbia's players that are skipping practice...

Necked

Neither team ought not be skippin' any practices. Columbias' got to figure out how to slow Sweenys' passing game, and Sweenys' got to find some way to slow down Lewis/Flannel/Thomas/Bess. So y'all get crackin', cause I don't want to drive 2 hours through rush hour traffic to watch a sloppy game...

Aint no doubt about that.

Drove his truck too far in the yard. Then he had to remove his manhood(s) and put them back in the jar, above the fridge and hope she didn't notice him taking them out of the house. Then ease into bed and blame the tracks in the yard on someone else.

I heard all of the tickets for the game are sold out.... they are in the process of printing more. All those WC fans will have to stand cause their band will take most of their seating!!!!!!!!!

By the way is the drill team still called the Derrick (sp?) Dolls?

Just got word that both schools still have plenty of tickets.....you can contact Columbia or Sweeny....

I heard that Sweeny has decided to ban the Columbia coaches from being on the field. They don't want the weight to harm the freshly mowed grass.

In other news, with West Columbia coaches now being forced to sit in the stands, there will be no more room on the Columbia side for Roughneck fans to sit. All persons currently holding a ticket are asked to bring lawn chairs.

That is incorrect Carter. It's actually the opposite. They are putting a Mexican buffet in between the benches and stands to occupy coaches. What they don't know is Pancho no come durante football games. And he can single handedly out coach the any opposing staff.

Never easy. Great game by both teams. They all showed tremendous heart. Good Luck to WC in the playoffs. Just wish we could have played better offensively in the 1st half.:( Defense played a whale of a game. Offense played much better in the 2nd Half. Turnovers in the first half cost the Dogs. Game of interest next week is Mathis @ Rockport-Fulton.

A Sweeny win and Mathis win playoffs look like

WC vs. Sinton
Sweeny vs. Mathis
Needville vs. Ingleside

A Sweeny win and RF win

WC vs. RF
Sweeny vs. Ingleside
Needville vs. Sinton

A Sweeny loss and a Mathis win

W.C. vs. RF
Needville vs. Ingleside
Sweeny vs. Sinton

Well you get the gist.

Even if Rockport beats Mathis next week they still need to have enough points to take the tiebreaker in order to get in the playoffs. A Rockport win doesn't absolutely get them in.

What a game both teams played last night. I enjoy watching a defensive battle, & that one had defense to spare! The intensity was so thick you could cut it with a knife. This will serve both teams well when the pressure of the playoffs start. I felt it was gutsy decision Sweeny made when they went with the stack defense. They gave up a couple of long ones but it helped keep them in the game when their offense struggled. This game was very worthy of our long tradition of matchups with the dogs. I believe Sweeny will do well in the post season if they can maintain that intensity level. I also liked Sweeny giving out firearms for rafle prizes, makes Columbias fruitbaskets & signed football look like a booger.
Now for the one negative, that concrete douchbag they call stands. Once again they proved to be inadequate for a game of this magnitude. That thing was jammed 15 minutes after the gates opened at 5:00, even with half the band sitting on the track. Either bring in some more seating, stop over selling tickets, or play this game at a neutral site. The parents of our starting QB had to watch their sons biggest game from the goalline fence, for crying out loud. And my knees are still hurting from 4 hours of standing...

It wasn't to long ago your stands were not even safe to walk on so I don't think I would talk trash about stands. And if I remember your community voted down a bond to improve your field and stands. Luckily your board had enough Nads to do it anyway. Maybe your starting QBs parents should have got there earlier like alot of others including myself. You should have given them your seats if you are so concerned! Good luck in the playoffs WC. Hopefully we both will represent well!

That is not entirely correct. The bond was for the replacement of the playing surface. The visitors stands had been rebuilt years before when they went from wooden to aluminum of the same size as before. If I remember, when Sweenys stadium was condemed & they had to play all their home games at Columbias field, It seems to me they went in with smaller stands than what was there previously.
All of that is besides the point I was making. They were jammed the instant the gates were open. I clearly listed 3 things that possibly could have been done before this game was played that could have made things better. This has happened before, thus my extreme annoyance....

We only played one game at WC that year, homecoming against El Campo. The rest were on the road. We have as big of stands as almost anyone around in 3A. You are used to 4A. I don't think we'll build bigger stands for one ballgame of that magnitude every 10 years or so. That was an exceptional crowd. WC is winning so you had an extra big crowd this year. Plain and simple.

I thought it was great. The lack of seating created a Buzz amongst the fans early in the week. It went from getting there at 645 to get a good seat to 545 by the end of the week. Heck I even enjoyed getting booed by the sweeny fans before the game started. I wish the women would have thrown their empty Copenhagen cans at us. The atmosphere was awesome. I hope it's x10 next year.

I was there at 4:30 and the ticket lines were extremely long. Sweeny's stadium was origionally built back in 1964? As a 2A Stadium. I will agree we need more stands on the visitor side but only for WC and Bay City. Not many other visitor fans come to Sweeny.

I believe the stadium dates back to 1959, the same year the original part of the HS was built. It has been repaired as least two different times since, once in 1976 and again in 1983 (?). I worked on the crews that did the repairs during the summer of '76 and it was in pretty bad shape. All we did was put a band-aid on it.

I have to agree with you on that point. I have noticed that pretty much every team we've played over the last few years has had very little fan support, even for their home games. Other than Bay City the only other team to have a good turnout was La Grange, & those guys had a long haul to get here. I guess football isn't as important to some communities as it is to others. Thats sad to me, I like a full stadium, makes for a great atmosphere.
The worst part about the stadium issue was the fan reaction. I spent some time hanging out at Elmos saturday & there was much talk about the game of course, & just about every conversation ended with "...I'm not going to that stadium again." Thats not a good thing to hear...

Well I bet the ones who are true ROughneck fans will be there. I've watched some games in some pretty bad stadiums, bad places and bad weather. But if you are a fan and not just a band wagon jumper because its a good year youll show up! Whether Sweeny/WC or who. This was an exceptional year for the crowd(and it was great) but lets face it. It is not always that way. It was playoff atmosphere and High School football at its best! Mac you are right the time they tore the stadium almost all the way down and redid it was 1983.
