Gimme Sinton by 2TDs. Mathis has a stable of RBs & they are tough, but after tonight it would appear if you can slow them down and have a balanced attack on O that the Lake Pirates have trouble slowing you down. Sinton will open up that passing game of theirs and it could get ugly for Mathis if they can't figure out how to stop it.

Mathis has solid running game but their D has been pretty much exposed as not too solid. Sinton has solid offense period. Defense has problems with the slot T but too bad. Sinton by 14.

They may have been able to if they would have jammed them at the line instead of playing ten yards off and still getting burned. When they played up, they got burned by the jump-ball. When they played back, it was the ten-yard out pattern. Sinton will pose a whole other monster for Mathis, as their passing scheme is more complex than what Ingleside brought. They're going to have to play zone, big time.

It won't help. There's always holes between the zones and Cave is a legitimate dual threat.

If WC gets RF, they will win easily. If they get Sinton, its going to be a shootout. WC's pass D is a little soft, so Sinton will score.

I like WC's chances a lot more against RF, but I like the thought of playing against Sinton. Would make for a fun week on here.

In my opinion (based off of "on paper")...I believe WC would chew RF up and spit them out. Sinton/WC would come down to defense. Could WC slow down Sinton's passing game and could Sinton slow down WC on the ground?

Not sure how that will affect them next year, but they will have a rock solid D and and plenty of talent. Just gotta find out who will take Lewis place.

If they can come up with a solid QB next year, then yes... it will be ugly for WCs opponents.

just saw the video my wife recorded for me, Sinton had a few drop passes on open receivers down field. Hopefully they dont miss on those chances next friday. Sinton finally gave up a defensive td in the 4th qtr on nice run late in the 4th by AP Butler. Sinton defense looked good

It definitely is going to hurt Mathis if they have to start throwing early on. Ingleside tried to get them out of the Wing-T, but they are just truly good at running it. Mathis 3 backs were fast. Sinton may be better suited at stopping the wing t, but if not then this game may go back and forth as well.

Sinton still has two games to win. Period! I think the Sinton D slows Mathis down, and the Sinton Offense is just too much for Mathis.

LOL do yall not remember that when it counted the most our D stepped up and stopped Mathis dead in their tracks last year?

Now, I know it's not last year and that Mathis' offense has improved, but so has our defense. Mathis can rack up as many yards as they want in between the 20s, as long as we keep them out of the endzone. It is very likely that we will be out of position at times (like last night that lead to 2 TDs) but I'll take a few couple of missed assignments, as long as we WIN!

They won't be able to stop our offense. Believe that!

Our coaches don't need to pull out any game film other than Mathis' film from THIS year. :rolleyes: C'mon now. And yall are forgetting that there are 2 veteran coaches still on staff from the '01 squad that coach defense and do a great job! :inlove: :D

I will have the shirt for this game. I know we have some new Mathis posters (yay). Where is the best place to have a M&G and get a photo? I'd prefer either really early or at half-time.

Even though Mathis lost and it won't be 2 undefeated teams playing I still expect a big crowd and us Sinton folk will have to get our seats pretty early.

Looking for a good physical game both teams have a lot to play for a little bummed about Fridays outcome but congrats to ingleside they played lights out from the first play..but this pirate match up will be a high scoring game and it will get packed so get there early....prediction

Not touchy. Sinton's having a good year so far and I just don't think it's necessary for anyone to rub our opponents' noses in it. Besides, in the case of this game you don't even know what you're talking about.

Look, I know enought that Mathis is a worthy opponent.

In all candor, I figure it's going to be a very good game. Close in fact.

But it isn't rubbing thier nose in it. You yourself said previously that you thought Sinton was that good. That may be true. Hats off to Sinton if you do win your district...

If an outsider such as myself always notices Sinton always wins, maybve the opponents need to change the perspective. This isn't about disrespecting Sinton's opponnents, maybe it's about encouraging a town or a community to possibly change things....

For example, look at the old perspective of the Yankees/Rangers....

The Yankees used to treat our Rangers like the kid you took his lunch money from. And then guess what? Changes happened and we became the David of David and Goliath...we beat them!

I believe in sports, it's possible for any team anywhere to be the David.

That's the point, Sinton doesn't ALWAYS win, so you obviously know very little about this district.

I keep hearing something about a BMW backfield?? And that the Mathis backfield is like soooo good...pretty sure they had a WAY better back a few years ago named Amos Blanche and Sintons defensive scheme held him to under 100 yds. So if sinton can stop the run early I dont see Mathis making this a close game

Not sure if you have seen them this year but fast is not all they bring. AND like i said they couldnt stop Ingleside was the reason they didnt win and not because they shut down Mathis running game. Just like last year, Sinton expose how Mathis couldnt cover the pass as they like to play man to man and they dont have the secondary to do that and dont pressure the qb to help them out.

Mathis has not played nearly as tough a schedule as Sinton or Ingleside(cant believe I said that) or Rockport. Those two backs are good, but not the best Mathis has had. Mathis is a good team, their staff and kids do a great job but they are not as good as they were last year in my opinon. Just an opinion. Sinton, if focused on the district title, wins and rolls into the playoffs. Ingleside beats RPF, they are in. RPF wins....then it gets interesting!!! Go Pirates and Tigers!! The Sealy and Rockdale kind!!

I agree that Sinton has the best offense but you would just should have been at the Mathis/Ingleside game. It was not even the same Ingleside offense that Sinton saw. The Mustangs gave the supreme effort. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I think Sinton will rip Mathis up. Sinton will win by 21+. Now having said this and not to wish Sinton bad luck I hope Mathis beats Sinton. That could result in another three way tie for district for Ingleside, Sinton, and Mathis.

Their run defense wasn't that great either. Ingleside rushed for 186 yards and they aren't a running team. The whole Mathis defense has been exposed. Sinton will destroy their defense.

I know for a fact that my boys in Sinton are fired up for this game! Theyre gonna come out with an intensity level never before seen and play every play from snap to whistle as hard as they possibly can. The offense of Sinton has been steam rolling through opponents all year and thats not going to change friday night when the REAL PIRATES come to town.

Sinton comes out attacking deep early, they'll put up points in the 40+ range but i think they're going to mix it up some and grind out that clock with long time consuming drives.

My brother and some of my cousins that went to school in Goliad are going to the game. I went to school in Goliad, but I'm not a fan of the Tigers. My brother hates that Mathis ran up the score and their are hopeing Sinton puts it on them. My cousin is the QB for Goliad and he was hitting the recievers on the numbers against Mathis bit I guess they were eating popcorn before the game lol.

I don't think Sinton will purposely run up the score. Their coach has too much class for that. I do think Sinton is going to put a whooping on Mathis though.

The quarterback for Goliad is very good. He was very accurate in the game against Ingleside but his receivers are mediocre. It's a shame.

I lost my mother last month. I have been out of High School many many years and still find the loss hard to deal with at times. I can not imagine what that young man from Mathis is had to deal with. Even though I was in the same boat with him, it would be very hard to loose a parent at a young age.

This game will likely be a high scoring contest. Sinton D has a hard time stopping that Nasty Slot and Mathis runs it pretty darn good. With Mathis having 3 backs that can break a long run for a td at any time, it's gonna be tough for Sinton. On the other hand if Sinton's O plays like they've been playin Mathis could have a tough time keeping up with Sinton. I think the key will be what kind of defense will Mathis throw at Sinton. I'll bet it's something Sinton hasn't seen this year and it could throw Sinton off for a while. I predicted Sinton by 14 earlier but I'm gonna drop that to 7. 42-35 Sinton.

Best rb duo tandem or trio from Mathis was on the 99 state final team. Veliz, collavo, and soza. Like I said earlier Mathis is good but Sinton's senior class is legit and won't be denied. First round playoff game will be tough but a win and the pirates could go farther than last year and pieRat4state that just means more cooking for you. 3 absolutes this weekend! Tigers over falcons, tigers over buffs, and the real pirates over the I 37 kind.

They slipped by AP 21-14. May have been an off night, but RF has dealt with a lot of injuries after starting off strong. I wouldn't count them out. They've got pretty good size, and a little bit of quickness.

Mathis vs Rockport will determine who makes it in and will also determine which division Sinton goes to. Mathis/Rockport win or lose by each team this friday wont put them in or elminate them, their game in the last district game will determine which one stays home.

I think it is going to be extremely packed and no one will want to lose their seat once the game begins.

Nice article. I'm surprised the Caller published it. They normally don't give much credit to this district until the Corpus Christi teams are eliminated in the first round of playoffs. Then they jump on the North of the Bay" band wagon.

I agree. I think Sinton will take care of business but it would be to Ingleside's benefit if Mathis won. Mathis just doesn't have the defense to stop Sinton.

I don't know if Sinton can stop the Mathis running attack but should be able to slow it down enough to outscore them. Mathis lives off the big play. Once any of those running backs get in your defensive backfield it is very hard to catch and stop them. Ingleside held them to under 400 yds rushing (387). That is something very few teams had been able to do. We didn't stop them bit we slowed them down. They had to punt 2 or 3 times in the game. Ingleside didn't. That was the difference.

Thanks for getting my back P4S but you know that old saying "Sticks and stones-----". Mathis got their bubble burst last week and now they are angry. If this person would look at my previous posts he would see that I hope Mathis wins tonight. It's not that I have a favorite Pirate team. If Mathis wins and Ingleside wins their next 2 then we have a chance in sharing the district title.

to be honest I haven't been to Vans since the move, but I haven't heard anything about the quality dropping.

Just a portion. I beleive it was space previously used for storage. I may be wrong. I do know that the dance hall has been remodeled and going strong.

Oh cool. Its always good to see an old building get a new lease on life. Of course, most of the dilapidated buildings along the main streets of Mathis would be better off torn dorn, but its nice to see that they were able to find a use for the Cielito Lindo.
