I am in the process of writing an essay about Texas High School’s greatest teams.

Not really, I am just looking for a good reason to blow my own teams horn, and want to hear some of you folks blow yours. :D

When choosing your best season, please limit it to one year (I know many of you have more than one ring and a lot of folks have none) but try and pick the best one.

Also, I am well aware of the fact that Today’s kids are bigger and faster than the kids of 20 years ago (our own 7th grade team had two kids over six foot 200lbs plus this year) so try and keep your picks Relative .

OK Here is MINE

1981

This is the year my Bobcats won State for the second time in as many years and went 15-0, but that is just the beginning.

1981 was the year we beat Southlake Carroll 26-14, Coppell 67-0, Celina 53-0 and won the state game against Garrison 32-0 just to name a few.

We outscored our opponents 572 to 74, or 38-5 on average. And pretty much dominated all of the other tangibles for 15 games in a row. Our record below kind of speaks for itself.

Pilot Point 35, Ft. Worth Country Day 20
Pilot Point 47, Whitesboro 7
Pilot Point 45, Howe 0
Pilot Point 26, Southlake Carroll 14 eek!
Pilot Point 53, Celina 0 :D
Pilot Point 34, Frisco 0
Pilot Point 47, Aubrey 6
Pilot Point 37, Sanger 0
Pilot Point 67, Coppell 0 :)
Pilot Point 43, Little Elm 0
Pilot Point 42, Cooper 12
Pilot Point 15, Pottsboro 7
Pilot Point 21, Eastland 8
Pilot Point 28, Hale Center 0
Pilot Point 32, Garrison 0 :p

Now tell me about yours.

The 1964 Ingleside Mustangs

They made their second trip to the State Title game in three years, but this time weren't the underdogs they had been in 1962. Whereas '62 was a bit of a dream season, the 'Stangs were a known commodity in '64 and proved it, plowing through their first four playoff opponents 85-20 before falling to Archer City, 13-6, in the Class A State Championship game. Since 1964 Ingleside has only made the playoffs once, so that made this one a pretty easy call.

Bi-District:
IHS over Rio Hondo 26-6
Second Round (Regionals? Area?):
IHS over Three Rivers 21-6
Quarterfinals:
IHS over Hull-Daisetta 20-8
Semifinals:
IHS over Rosebud 18-0

Finals:
Archer City over IHS 13-6

I think the 51' team was great considering it was the only ring Giddings has brought home, but I think 2001 was better. Though I'm a little partial. Though I'm a little partial. Anyway 2001 scored 490 and gave up 164. Not as good as the 51' team but we played 4 top 10 teams beating 3 and losing to one twice.I personally think that this team was the best to ever go through the town of Giddings.

Tough to argue against a team that went 15-0 and won State. (Note to fans/members of the 2001 Buffs -- it would've been great if we would've won it all on the 50th anniversary of the 1951 State champs, but we came up a little short. For what it's worth, though, the 2001 team was the best that I have seen, and the best in the last 50 years...)

Greenwood would have to be this year - (11 - 0),
we have never been any higher than 6 - 0 until now. We were a few rounds deep into the play-offs a couple of years ago when Muleshoe beat us out. We will have to see if we can break that record also. If we beat Canyon tomorrow, we will play the winner of the Kennedale/Ballinger game - YUCK!!!!

that '91 state game was a doozy, i just wish that we would have come out on top though. it was a great season for our guys and groesbeck also. i was only 8 or 9, but i still remember almost the whole game. the desperation pass at the end that almost got us a score. but i dont really remember any bad blood between the teams, unlike the marble falls and sl games in the weeks before.

"The glory of young men is their strength, Gray hair is the splendor of the old."

ps-anyone else know where this quote is found? if so, lemme know. It's a verse from the Bible...check out Proverbs 20:27.
