Much as I love to see hard hits, I have come to the realization that the physical development of the modern athlete has assumed levels that make it potentially deadly for unrestricted play to continue in it's present form. Something had to be done before deaths start occuring fairly regularly at games, or life-long debilitating injuries become common. To me, this is much like the mandatory manifold restrictor plates that NASCAR was forced to implement due to the gains in engine technologies which resulted in huge hp outputs of the racing engines which could potentially allow straight-away speeds in excess of 250+mph or more.
