Hunter vs Burnett

Huge game if Hunter can win this one and give the Rangers a 3-1 lead. Game starts at 7 today.... and 3 tomorrow

Thoughts?

Im not a huge baseball guy, and really didnt think the Rangers had a snowballs chance against the Yankees. But, if not for a total meltdown in game 1, this series is 3-0. If the Rangers can win 1 of the next 2, they got this thing.

Who is pitching game 5? I picked since the beginning Yankee's in 6.

Will they pitch Lee in 6 or save for 7?

CJ Wilson will pitch 5 for the Rangers, TBA on the Yankees

Colby Lewis is scheduled for game 6.

TBA on game 7 but we all know who that would be

If hunter or Lewis can sneek a win. Huge advantage Rangers. That leaves CJ and Lee to pull 1 out. Putting it all on CJ and Lee is tough. CJ will most likely be paired up against CC again.

If there is one game to get, its Game 4. AJ has struggled more this year than he ever has. He has given up more HR and higher ERA than he ever has. This plays into the Rangers benifit because I can't see Hunter throwing 9 shutout innings. I could realistically see Rangers scoring 5 by the 5th inning leaving the Yankees scrambling. I just hope Hunter don't give up 6 by the 5th.

This is what you call a front runner. Someone with no connection to the team he roots for but does so only because they win. It's a shame

The Rangers have a big one... they have thoroughly out-played the yanks in 25 of 27 innings. They are 1 relief pitcher having a bad night away from 3-0. Yes, its the Yankees and its only 2-1 and I may eat my words, I don't know dick about baseball after all, but the Rangers should have all the confidence they need to see this through.

EagleMaster23
10-19-2010, 12:18 PM
I think the Rangers have the Yanks in "panic mode" right now. Burnett hasn't been very good lately and he is way to wild around the plate to win this game. The only reason players don't rock Burnett is because they are to scared of getting drilled by a fastball in the face.

I quote Burnett "I've been working on my control, but yesterday in intersquad i hit 3 of my own guys, at least they know i don't mean it.."

He said this before the series with the Rangers started.

Rangers will take this game with a score of 6-3!!

Rangers will take this game with a score of 6-3!! In 98 the Yankees were down 2-1....I could see panic mode if it was 3-1 but they still have two games left in New York and could very well leave New York leading 3-2

EagleMaster23
10-19-2010, 12:23 PM
I'm saying they are in panic mode because the yankees know they should be down 3-0, instead of 2-1, they are not playing like the yankees we have seen the whole regular season.

waterboy
10-19-2010, 12:25 PM
The Yankees are a team with loads of confidence and experience. They do not think they will get beat until it is dead obvious, therefore I don't see them getting into a "panic" mode. The Rangers have to continue to take it to them, or the series could definitely be extended, and make it to a game 7. If a Ranger pitcher other than C.J. Wilson or Cliff Lee can get a win in this series, I definitely like our chances. I'm going to say that happens in this series, and the Rangers take it in six, but I've been known to be wrong before....... :D

Burnett is such a wildcard..he could go out and give up 5 runs in first 7 batters or he could pitch a 2 hit shut out. His stuff is electric, has a curveball that will buckle knees and an electric fastball.

When he gets his curveball over he is deadly..problem for Texas is they are not always patient at the plate and that might play into his skill set.

he has pitched decent agianst Texas this year

I think Tommy Hunter will feed off the other pitchers success and pitch well tonight, So if the rangers can get him some runs then we will be fine

When you've won 27 word series you probably don't panic... you just run out of games. I don't think a deer is in panic mode when it looks up and sees headlights rapidly approaching, they just can't move fast enough... I thought I recognized that look in Jeter's eyes last night. ;)

Those fans up there are like that. I was at Boston on business the 3rd week of the season this year and decided to catch a game since BOSOX were playing the Yanks. Holy Cow, I learned a whole new language of insults. They were chirping back and forth all night. Saw a few fights. Those fans up there are crazy.

I was in NYC last weekend and happily wore my Rangers regalia, including my bear claw/antlers shirt and my Josh Hamilton shirt. Mostly I got some gentle razzing, and I ran into a couple of Rangers fans. (Although one was actually a fan of "whoever is playing the Yankees".) It's not NYC in general.

He was good for about a month with good location and run support, now he doesnt hit his spots and gets lots of hard hit outs and Rangers usually score runs when he pitches, reason i feel this will eventually be a offensive game.

For some reason I got so tickled when I saw that. My family had long since gone to bed (in the 8th inning - they couldn't hang), but when I saw that line drive homer by Hambone to start the 9th inning I was laughing. Then after Vlad got on and Nelson Cruz hit the upper deck left field shot, I saw Nolan Ryan laughing and I was laughing hysterically. I was expecting my family to wake up with me laughing like that. Seeing Nolan laughing like that just tickled me, along with that monster shot by Cruz. Finally, I can be overcome with emotion over the RANGERS in October! End it TODAY, Rangers!

The umps have already done all they can to give it to the Yankees. What more could they do? Maybe let the fans actually run out onto the field and grab the Rangers' gloves? Start walking Yankees on 2 balls? Call strikes on pitches that go behind the Rangers' backs?

Personally I think the umping behind the plate has been horrible. But it's been horrible FOR THE MOST PART on both sides, with one pitch on the line being called a strike and the next in exactly the same spot or better being called a ball. I do think if you tallied the bad calls they'd swing slightly in the Yanks favor.

However I still believe that yesterday that was fan interference, and nothing will convince me otherwise.

Easy acid test for the fan interference non-call---Was there any reasonable doubt that Cruz would have made the catch if the fans were not there? In my book---you betcha....case closed.

Actually, I disagree. I think Cruz was traveling too far from right to left to make the catch.

But I would have liked to have seen it called anyway, ;)

IMO, he makes that play 10 out of 10 times, slpy---the ball was not that far inside the stands and the stills show his glove would have been right under the ball if the fans had not pushed his glove down....

Besides, it will not matter any after about 6:00pm today anyhow...:D

They sold out within an hour and a half or so of going on sale. I tried to get them when I got home from church at 10:30 on Sunday and was in the waiting room when they sold out.

Here is my opinion...

I believe the rules read that until the ball breaks the vertical plane of the field... no fan can touch the player. After that, however, it is fair game.

There is no doubt that the fan(s) touched Nelson's glove. Heck the guy on the right even swatted at it as he was dropping his hand down trying to catch the ball.

BUT... the question is, Did this happen after the ball had already broken the vertical plane. In watching the replays, I think it is close, but yes, I think the ball had already crossed the plane before the fans touched him. Still photos really can't help with this call, unless you see one with the ball in midair just as it is crossing the plane.

The below link is from mlb.com and you can get some pretty good looks on it, but not as good as if you have it on your DVR at home.

http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?topic_id=14872518

While I disagree with some on whether I thought it was interference, I think we would probably all agree on one thing. That clearly should be a play that is reviewed on instant replay. Bud Selig needs to retire and let a new commish bring baseball further along.

And with that all said, YMMV and looking forward to listening to the game today at work...

They sold out within an hour and a half or so of going on sale. I tried to get them when I got home from church at 10:30 on Sunday and was in the waiting room when they sold out.

No standing room available either??

I'm no A-Rod fan--but what should he have done---Laugh? He knew it was gone by the sound and didn't even need to look, and his posture is one of a beat down player and team---which they were.
