I think Bwood is as good as they're going to get right now. Carthage IMO will only get better as the season goes on and once they get in post season.

I will say this team is better than any team Bridgeport has ever dreamed of putting on a field, not to mention all the teams they have ever put on a field. Hopefully you will get to see it.

You've heard about our offense so we don't need to remind you. Our defense is really good too. What you people think is just keep it close then shock us in the 2nd half. Just one problem, we get better as the game goes on. If I'm not mistaken, we have scored over 150 points in the 1stQ, while our 8 opponents have just 9. Like Rocket says, Brownwood takes you out of your game plan in the first 20 minutes of the game then your throwing hail marys for a half. It gets comical.

We have played 3 of the last 5 seasons without the QB who was supposed to play QB. 5 and 4 seasons ago Jarret Lee (now at LSU) moved after starting at QB his sophomore year. Yet we still made it to the quarterfinals in 4A 5 years ago. Last year we lost our QB AND our backup QB. We have hardly underachieved lately.

They are fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game (Offense, defense and special teams). Their potential for exploding and scoring in bunches has been demonsrated all year. Our D wasn't bad last year just a little young. Our secondary is playmaker next to playmaker next to playmaker and our offense has been getting huge leads forcing teams to try to throw on us. This plays right into our hands literally and figuratively.

When Bob Shipley took over,he brought some fantastic asst. coaches with him, those guys are good at what they do, that's a huge reason for the quick turnaround, the players have been there.

But, as I posted on another thread there was another act of classless on the field Friday night from your side as well in my mind that some of your bwood brethren didn't see as such. I believe when a young man is injured in a football game the entire stadium should go as close to silent as humanly possible so that the trainer or doctor is able to communicate with the player as to the extent of the injury. I believe that if you are believer that you as a fan should take that time to pray for that young man and his health as well. I don't think it is respectful for players, coaches, fans or bands to be trying to pump up crowds and fans at that time and as for me I don't think it shows class. But, as I posted on another thread there was another act of classless on the field Friday night from your side as well in my mind that some of your bwood brethren didn't see as such. I am able to be objective and see what happens on both sides of the field, many are blinded by the color they wear to the game. Just my opinion.

Not only was the QB injured, but the backup QB was injured in the first district game and missed the rest of the season as well. This caused the coaches to move Vance Mcshan from WR to QB. So we took a hit at QB by losing two of them, and then we lost one of our receivers because he had to play QB. Basically everyone is back on the offense that we had from last year. Only now Mcshan can go back to being yet another receiving threat and both our QBs are healthy.

On defense I think we have 9 back who started last year. The defense definitely was not bad last year. A few teams put up quite a few points on us, but a lot of that was due to turnovers by having guys out on offense.

Don't forget Shipley missed the first 4 or 5 games last year.

We only lost 3 or 4 starters to graduation... so all the other starters are a year older... plus we have a few good additions from last years JV squad.

Vacarro was a soph last year and has come a long way this summer. Brownwood had a crazy offseason. Something we missed before 2009 with the new staff coming on in the middle of offseason. McShan was not playing on defense, just offense.

Our offense last year wasn't explosive because Brown was out. We would be playing for #9 right now if Brown had been healthy last year. We proved that by beating Graham with our 3rd String QB. This team was primed for greatness. The kids worked very very hard this last offseason and it shows. They are stronger, faster, and focused and not one team has even come close to slowing them down, yet. ;)

Thanks to all you Brownwood guys for your insights and answers to my question. It is good to exchange some serious football discussion now and then instead of trading insults continuously, even though most seem to be offered in semi-jest, and I do enjoy razzing you guys from time to time, myself---and especially Rocket.

It has been somewhat of an atypical season so far in 2010 with Brownwood bursting out of the gate so forcefully from the start, several of the perennial powers faltering some, and big questions about several others because of scheduling. I don't mean to take anything from any other teams doing well, right now--I'm just attempting to give my insights on the "Brownwood effect" on the board.

The playoffs are always the great equalizer, and I expect this season will be no different, and we will all have to wait til then to get solid answers to a lot of questions. No doubt, Brownwood has answered all the questions earlier than everyone else in 3A, but many years of watching Texas highschool football have taught me that someone always rises to the challenge, there are a few surprises, and a few disappointments.

You Brownwood folks are the victim of a lot of barbs early and regularly because-- let's face it--nobody can give you much valid argument on performance right now, so you get a lot of grief tossed your way----some probably justified and even invited, and some not--and of course we all know that Rocket just loves to get all the banter about the Lions he can gather or stir up---good or bad---24-7.

Anyhow--this is just one old poster's insights right now, which I don't consider to be more valuable than anyone else's. Let's try hard to continue to be proud of our chosen teams, and more importantly---the kids who make them up---win or lose each week, and try to refrain from engaging in sustained, personal insult sessions and mean-spirited team de-meaning attacks in our posts. Looking forward to having a lot of fun with you all on the board and maybe even having the opportunity of shaking your hands at a M&G here and there, and the pleasure of watching your team play.

To Heavy-D....just so you know, DaHop doesn't type in his mother's basement, as a matter of fact, he lost his sweet mother earlier this year....that was the first thing I thought when I read your asinine post!! DaHop is one if the nicest people on this board, and one of the nicest ones I have met in person, so if he doesn't take offense to your post, I do....not that you would care one way or the other!!

Now, that being said, I must admit I was surprised at the Snyder sideline when the Brownwood player was down for that injury. My daughter, who was a trainer for the Rangers for 4 years, was MAD! Greenwood may have a reputation for certain unsavory things, but those kids are down on a knee during an injury.

From where I sat, I saw more dirty play from the Brownwood side, but it was definitely happening on both sides during the game. Personally, I thought the refs were horrible, and blame them for letting their "no calls" go so much that dirty play just seemed to escalate.

I went in not knowing what to expect, just wanted to witness a good game. Both teams have talent, but I had to adtmit that in the end, Snyder was just outplayed.

Since my own team is in the gutter this year, these are going to be 2 teams that I definitely follow. The QB and #12 from Snyder were fun to watch, and the Brownwood QB, Shipley and a host of others whose numbers escape me right now were impressive too.

That is just one mom's opinion.....take it for what it is worth (and to the ones who know me, it probably won't be worth much!!!):D :D :D

What you saw from Brownwood was retaliation. We have the proof on video. Hopefully it will be posted soon. :)

You must be a real poser stating you Love fb. If you did, you would look at the team and the talent--and not the fans. If you want to shovel stuff on the fans, no problem, there's plenty of us, we can shoulder that load.

Example: I also love basketball, and saw the awesome 2009 Houston Yates team at State. Kept up with them all year leading into 2010 State. I don't see them losing if they don't have a serious injury problem or have one of those five or six turnover nights.
