I don't know much about about Westwood but I'm sure they will be up for the Eagles(who proved they are top 25 material all season) and should be ranked in the top 25 now!

BREAKING NEWS: Price out as WHS athletic director

BETHEL — The Westwood football team will be under the guidance of a new coach this week after superintendent Dr. Ed Lyman made the decision to re-assign Bryan Price within the school district Tuesday.

Both Price and Lyman confirmed the move late Tuesday.

The Panthers opened the 2010 season 0-6 under Price, who took the job in June after former athletic director Kevin Anderson left the position to take a job on the Palestine coaching staff in May.

Lyman, who said the decision was solely his when reached at home Tuesday, said that the program needed “something different” and that he “had some concerns about the way the program was operating.”

Price said he wasn’t given a clear-cut reason for his reassignment, which will be to an assistant principal position if he chooses.

“(They said) team unity and parent support has suffered the past few weeks,” he said, but said they added nothing further.

Price referenced an incident between a player and teammates Friday, but couldn’t go into further details about.

While the team has had its struggles during 2010, Price said he didn’t see the move coming, and feels like he didn’t feel like a proper evaluation of his performance could be made in such a short time.

I don’t think it’s fair to anybody to ask someone to come in, by themselves and get it going in the right direction in a six week period,” said Price, who didn’t bring any of his own assistants or personnel with him to Westwood. “You wouldn’t hire a superintendent, give him six weeks and then make a change after he’d moved his family down here.”

Roger Mays, who served as an assistant to Price and was one of three finalists for Anderson’s vacancy in June, will serve as the head football coach for the remainder of the season.

Shane Jones, a former WHS athletic director and currently an assistant principal, will serve as the interim athletic director and handle mostly administrative duties.

Lyman said the position will then be re-opened for applicants.

“After analyzing the entire program, I feel that it’s time to make a move, make change,” Lyman said. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to turn some things around. Basically, the best way I can put it, is the fit just isn’t quite what I expected. Unfortunately we haven‘t had the successes we’ve anticipated.”
