View Full Version : Rangers Game 1 UPDATES - Rangers / Rays Playoff game

Everyone at ESPN is predicting the Rays beat the Rangers...wouldn't it be neat if the Rangers could pull this out? I'm thinking Lee is starting the series...I like our chances!

I've been patiently waiting all week for this. We need to win this first game just to change the mind set of the players and the fans. Keeping the fast guys off base is the key to this series. Stolen bases is going to be the key to this series.

Yeah winning game one is important for morale and percentages.
shows they can win in tampa and gives them confidence

actually a few from ESPN are predicting Rangers to win

bigwood33

Cliff and CJ both hold runners well so I am optimistic the running will be minimized. The key is getting a run early. If we can stake Cliff to a 1 or 2 run lead in the first 3 or 4 innings, it could be " church".

Giving our pitchers run support is the key to this series. The Rangers will have to probably score 5 runs or more every game to win.

actually for a LHP Wilson is not great at holding runners..Oakland showed that

yea CJ is one of the worst in holding runners.

I'm not sure which one it was but one of the ESPN gurus picked the Rangers as the best team in the AL and predicted they would represent in the World Series! If Vlad and Hamilton can unleash the offense I think the Rangers are very tough. I don't like the start times of the first two games though.

it will be interesting to see if Lee goes more than 7 or 8 innings and if Washington will pull him or ride it all the way to Feliz. Last time he was dominating before Rays got to him i think in the 7th and then took the lead in the 8th with Lee still in there.

There's no comparison between this team and the previous playoff teams. Yes, they have a better ERA than Tampa Bay, and a better bullpen. I still say that the pitchers haven't gotten the run support they have needed at times this year. If the Rangers score runs, i.e. 5 runs per game, they will likely win, which is why I said what I did. There have been countless times this season where the offense has let them down, even against mediocre pitching. This is the playoffs where you have to have both good pitching AND some offense (run support). Back then, in '96, '97, and '99, the team had a very good offense, but the pitching was suspect. That's definitely not the case this year. This year it is very good pitching and a good offense with some timely hitting (most of the time). If the Rangers continue to score around 5 runs a game, I don't think they will lose a series in the playoffs. That was definitely something you couldn't say in the '90s.

Farmersfan
10-07-2010, 07:50 AM
Up today for the Rangers is CJ Wilson! CJ is 1-0 vs the Rays this season. I don't think it will be as much of a shutout as Cliff Lee produced but CJ can be pretty dominating when he's on!
Let's go Rangers!

BTW: I wish they would stop talking about this being only the 2nd playoff win in franchise history for the Rangers! Makes me feel like a Detroit Lions fan!!!!! :(

Let em keep talking. You have to get playoff win #2 in order to get playoff win #3. I'm just happy to hear people talking about TEXAS RANGERS baseball and playoffs in the same sentence. Maybe we can get that win #3 today with C. J. on the hill.
