Region III Week 6 GotW: Mexia (4-1) @ Fairfield (5-0)

Ok folks! This game has the potential to decide who wins district. The Fairfield Eagles are in new territory with dominating wins throughout their early schedule. The boys appear to be primed and ready to take the next step. They have surpassed many expectations for each game this year. This week Mexia comes into Fairfield heavy favorites and with a close hard-fought win over Liberty Hill. The one loss Mexia has is to an always talented Waco LaVega.
Mexia has another impressive win over China Spring in addition to it's win over LH.

I would like to see this game. I know the town of Fairfield has to be pumped and should bring a large crowd. My only concern is that Fairfield's schedule might have hurt them some.

I'm picking Mexia by a TD or so, because Mexia has played a tougher schedule. Mexia's wins over China Spring, Gatesville and Liberty Hill look better to me than Fairfield's wins over Ferris, Teague and Rusk.

Don't think it will be a blowout though.

Fairfield was tough back in the 80's when I played against Winfred Tubbs and Tony Brackens. They will need those guys to come back to stop Gentry. Mexia rolls, 41-17.

they started 5-0 in 1999. went 10-0 and lost to Robinson in the first round. Started 5-0 in 02 and finished 11-2 losing to Bellville on a heartbreaking game. In 03 started 4-0 and lost to Crockett only after losing our star player Kyle Lightsey. In 04 was the last time fairfield made the playoffs and had more than 3 wins.

earlier this year i said that RB for mexia was a chump, then i saw him, he is pretty impressive.

all they did with him though was a zone read, that was never a read lol just straight handoff all the time

if fairfield can slow that they should win, mexia's QB couldn't really throw, at least i thought so

their RB tends to do a GREAT job in making the first guy miss, and never got stuck by anyone all game, he was always falling forward for more yards


mexias defense was suspect and didn't show too much speed, their tackling was decent

Fairfield has a very good running game...
Mexia will slow them down.
But will it be enough?
The Eagles can pass it nicely, too, and will when needed to.
Mexia has a good defense that consistently swarms to the ball and more. Their O is pretty stout, also. It won't be enough.
Fairfield has the "je ne se qua" to win this game. :nerd:
AND, I haven't even mentioned the Fairfield defense!
