I'm thinking a whole lot of people are over there already. Last year there were people heading over there at 4:30. I haven't heard as many people this year talking about it, but I would be surprised if there isn't a pretty good contingent already saving seats.
(and hopefully slpy is one of them!)

dang, i'm sure i'll find a spot. i was an hour and a half early last year and was lucky to find a big enough spot for me and my wife, 5:30 it is!:D

Like they say, you can throw away stats and rankings with this game. Decatur did all it could but Bridgeport got it going when it needed to. How many picks did Henson throw? I know of 3
BullsFan
10-08-2010, 11:54 PM
He didn't throw all the picks. One popped out of a Bridgeport receivers hands literally right into the chest of a Decatur defender. All he had to do was grab it. Another was a bobbled kickoff reception. But yeah...momentum was all Bridgeport during the first half and mostly all Decatur in the second. The second half absolutely wore me down. I'm BEAT right now. That last 2 and a half minutes may be the slowest 2 and a half minutes of any game I've ever seen.
Very VERY glad to have come out with a win. No matter how Decatur plays all year long, we know they'll be up for playing us. Glad there didn't seem to be any serious injuries on either side. I will say that the Decatur fan who yelled "Suck it up" into the absolute dead silence while our injured player was laying on the field with doctors and trainers all around him was a low class jerk. For the most part, though, it was an exciting game with the players leaving everything out on the field. Hodges is definitely a stud, and I think you guys might surprise some people if you can keep up the intensity you had during the second half.
Bulls played lights out in the first half, and bend but don't break in the second. They came through despite some adverse circumstances and ugly non-calls, and I can't wait to see what they'll do next. Go BULLS!!!!

good game, decatur got some help from the refs on more than one occasion and i think more than one person will agree to that. yalls QB isn't half bad, hell of a scrambler.

Yes, it was three. Two of which came when we had no business passing the ball.
in the 4th, Protecting a lead, and with a running game that ran all night on Decatur, RUN THE BALL.

Well I just have to put my two cents in...I've been reading this all week and haven't commented...really didn't know what to expect out of the Eagles tonight. I will say this...they showed that no matter how bleak it looks, you never give up. To come back in the second half and play like that when losing 38-14 showed a lot of character on their part. As far as the missed calls, I think we could say the same about Bridgeport. The bulls held all night long and hardly ever got called for it. Pretty obvious when the jersey is almost pulled off the player and the ref is standing right there and never calls it.
As far as the bull defense...I've been reading all week about how good this so called defense is...well...if that's all you got, then you've got a rude awakening. Our so called crappy offense ran all over you the second half. I know you are happy with a win because a win is a win, but if Decatur is as bad a team as most of you seem to think they are, then where was the blowout? Our defense stepped up big time in the second half and held the bulls to just a field goal and one touchdown. Not too shabby for a bunch of non-talented eagles as Mama Bull likes to refer to them...or maybe you're just not as good as you think you are...
On a positive note...it was a good game and likewise I am glad that there seemed to be no major injuries for either team. Bridgeport is a good team and Decatur put up a hell of a fight.

Decatur had just about every break go there way in the second half with the ball bouncing off our guys hands and the fumble. Where was this stud at that was supposed to be the best we have seen? I will give credit to Decatur for never giving up and putting up a hell of a fight.

10-09-2010, 08:11 AM
where was bports defense at?? Yall are all in lala land if you think your bulls have a great defense. If we wern't sleeping in the first half we could have hung 50 on that so called "defense" and yall were supposed to have your way with ours all night and you didn't! And give it up on the lucky breaks and bad calls... bothe teams had to give it everything and they did
BullsFan
10-09-2010, 09:15 AM
And if we weren't sleeping in the second half y'all wouldn't have been in it at all. Why don't we call it a game and move on? We've got Mineral Wells to worry about now because this game is OVER.

you do have quite a bit to worry about after squeezing by a horrible decatur team
Eaglefan
10-09-2010, 10:20 AM
Funny how you want to move on now...if y'all had blown us out like you thought you would...we would still be hearing about it. Bridgeport people pretty quiet today. Our defense out and out picked off your qb twice and that was not a break, that was called good defense. I'll give you one of the three pickoffs as a break, but breaks happen for you when you start fighting to win, which is exactly what we did and it rattled Bridgeport. Seems to me that Bridgeport gets rattled easily and have a hard time recovering. Happened last year as well. You won't be able to do that with a better team and still win. As far as where was the stud that was supposed to be the best you've seen...he's still nursing an injury and is not up to full speed and it showed last night. If you don't think he is that good, then what does that say about your team? That we don't have any studs and we still got within 3 of you late in the game after a 27 point lead? More importantly, what does it say about Decatur? There is talent on that Decatur team, coaches just need to put the players in the best suited spots for each of them and that is not happening, but there are definately some playmakers on that team and it showed last night. We'll see how big all you are talking next year...it will be a different turnout, I can guarantee you. Our JV easily beat yours without many of their key players, which were moved up. Some very good players on that JV and I think we will have a pretty good varsity next year. Our quarterback is improving each week. We have several very good receivers that are not being used for some reason, but hopefully that will change next year. We'll see.
More importantly, I think the players proved to themselves that they are better than what most other teams are saying about them and I think we will do very well the rest of the season despite the projection of others...mainly B'port people...go figure
Eaglefan
10-09-2010, 10:26 AM
And Bullsfan...I don't think you were sleeping in the second half, we just stepped it up and y'all couldn't adjust very well. And again, I don't want to hear anything about we got all the breaks when it came to missed calls because that is just not true!

Did any of you see Coach Story in the 4th quarter with the Head Ref? It was hilarious - a Decatur receiver got mugged and tackled before the ball was ever thrown and there was no call.
Story walked out to the ref during the next time out and showed how the receiver got tackled by grabbing the ref and simulating the tackle. Great stuff! Gave him a standing ovation.
Good game kids - Wise County will talk about this for awhile.

I saw more blocks in the back last night than I've seen all year--cumulatively. Once there was a hold followed by a block from the back on the SAME player which the ref also missed. Fortunately our coach doesn't bother trying to argue with the ref, which is not something I particularly admire. I guess I'm just glad the dirty player who kicked our guy in the HEAD while he was laying on the ground was escorted off the field.
Truthfully, I think our problem was that it was just too easy for us in the first half. We scored too early and too often and lost our intensity. It's pretty hard to come out and play with fire when you're that far in the lead at halftime. Much easier to come out fired up when you've got that huge a deficit to overcome, and when beating us could be the highlight of your entire season. We've got bigger fish to fry.
Pretty funny to see all this trash talk after you lose. Seriously?
Just to try and end this on a somewhat positive note, congrats on your #23, who seemed to be a young man with class. He was down on the field with the injured players and he also walked the dirty head kicker off the field. Nice young man.

1. if you're going to cry about the officals, make it anything but holding. every kid, on every team, in every state, is taught to hold and get away with it. it a part of the game, and if you dont like go watch softball you little girl.
2. two touchdowns in the first half is pretty weak. you spoke of hodges and your quarterback as the second coming and the only thing you could do was run the ball. normally a 60 yard run is a busted play or a missed assignment on the defense, not a 5 star athlete running over people. and if anyone in there right mind knows anything about football they would know bridgeport came out FLAT. again if you knew anything about football you would know decatur didnt change anything up, they just converted every 3rd down because you're qb has wheels.
3.there was no talent, your second coming didnt do jack squat, he could break tackles but is all. and your qb is fast, ill give him that. but anyone could put a corner in the back field and look just like decatur.
this game was the complete opposite of last year. we came out in the second half flat in it almost cost us. but that just goes to show you that with that much momentum and that amount of time left decatur still couldnt pull out a win. yall are weak.

I don't know that I could add much to this thread, other than to echo the sentiments that last night's contest was a tribute to both teams in their own ways---Decatur for making some great 2nd half adjustments and having the guts to come back, and the Bulls for showing that they were the better team in the end, despite taking the Eagles for granted, and throwing so many picks in the 2nd half. Great win by a talented bunch of Bulls who continue to make some major mistakes, but overcome it on the scoreboard. I look forward to this game every year---if HS football fans around the state could see the films of some of these contests, I think we could get away with charging $100 a head and pack the stadiums nearly every year.

Not trying to make explanation for any poster of either team, but I think you have to give those who have actually played, or have close family members who have played for several years in the battle of Big Sandy some leeway. Over that time, a battle-hardened sort of battle mentality, even dislike, tempered with a grudging respect for the other team is developed, and is hard to change quickly and is hard for others not as close to this rivalry game to understand. This is just one fan's opinion. Usually time heals all as everyone mellows with the years, however.

Congratulations Bull fans you have a great team and should be very proud of them.
However, some of you seem to think Hodges wasn't a factor in this game and are questioning/trash talking his being one of the best players Bridgeport has seen this season. Yes he did not rush for 100 + yards or do anything spectacular outside of an interception, a TD throw, and a catch for a TD, but he was a much larger factor in the game than many of you really noticed.
The bulls coaching staff must have felt like he was one of the best they have seen, for they totally keyed on Hodges all night. The fact that linebackers flowed with him and also that there were two defensive backs assigned to him in coverage was the very reason why the Muehlstien was able to get loose and make some big plays with both his legs and arm.
The casual fan who only watches their kid on the field usually doesn't notice the things players contribute without the ball.

Wow, I don't know of anyone who watched the game who was not impressed by Hodges. The kid is a stud and showed it Friday night. The problem for Decatur was that Hodges could not do it all by himself, although he did have some pretty good players around him. Bridgeport's strength this year has been 4 game-breaker receivers, RB, and QB who can beat you running and throwing as well as good offensive line and pretty good "D" that rises to the occasion each week. That is hard for any team to overcome unless they can match those strengths. Thanks for the congrats, we are proud of our player's will to win each week.

Cracking up at all the Decatur fans trying to prove how good Decatur played in their losing effort. Yes, you guys played hard and took advantage of the Bulls terrible second half. Several bull fans gave you props... if that is so impotent to you.
The Bulls better start learning how to play four complete quarters. Pretty sure I haven't seen that this year yet. We for sure better learn to protect a 24 point lead... (hint, keep running the ball. Decatur never could shut down your running game all night. Hint for future Decatur games, Story always pooches or onsides. Teach kids to call a fair catch on the pooch.)
