I know more and more schools have gone to sports turf, so it may me wonder after playing at castleberry. What's the best fields you have played on that were natural grass. Castleberry wasnt perfect but very well maintained. Could of been a little softer, but looked very nice.
West usually has a good grass field. Anyone else?

Sinton's grass field is very well manicured. Almost as babied as Alice field.

Nothing better than a grass field, if its cared for in the right way. Grass field require a number of man hours for up keep and water, etc. The problem we have here in North Texas is the year round weather, and number of games played on grass field. They can get out of shape real fast. In the long run, turf field are cheaper to have than grass field,I do like grass field. Thanks!

Sinton's field usually looks pretty nice. It looked surprisingly good this past Friday during the Robstown game, despite the 10+ inches of rain we received the past several weeks.

Big Spring's field has never been very nice. I am shocked that they haven't gone to turf yet. With their location I owuld think they could catch a lot of playoff games if they had turf.

Yes, the Alice stadium has really nice grass that wins awards, plus the press box is pretty sweet too, considering the stadium is 60 years old.

Big Spring could catch some playoff games if they'd put some money into their stadium....good location for smaller schools out that way...stadium is plenty big enough..(holds 10k) and Big Spring has plenty of places to eat etc....but they have a lot of work to do...new pressbox, bleachers, turf, locker rooms...might almost be cheaper just to build a new one..

I was going to mention these two.

Sherman spent $300,000 and fixed their grass field up real nice. The rest of the stadium is crap. But the field is nice.

Nice grass and stands so high off the ground you can only see the players and cheerleaders heads. They did redo the home side just not visitor.

Texarkana Texas High has an excellent field. The grass is some type of hybrid that stays green year around.

Are you sure they dont overseed with rye in the fall? Do they play soccer? If they do then that is why. I bet they overseed in the fall and then kill it off in the spring when the bermuda is coming back out. Just my educated guess

This is a top notch field.

All I know is that it never appears to turn brown. It always looks just like that pic. I believe the firm that was contracted to install it was from Florida.

Bryan HS has the best grass field of any HS I have seen, and has for years.

Also Madisonville renovated in the off season and their field is very very nice.

LaVernia before the turf. Lytle's grass is always nice, Devine is always sharp. Gonzales has nice grass to did they go to turf? Yoakum was great to. But the best place to play in South Texas IMO is Cuero Tx. Best Stadium, Best Grass, Best Crowd just everything about the place. I loved playing there and walking through the crowd from the gym to the field and all the town folk sizing you up as you walk up to the field loved it. Best place in Texas to play a game. IMO

Guess it's okay to say it now. Sinton's installing turf in the spring. The front page of the San Pat News says the Sinton ISD board of trustees voted in favor of the Pirates switching to a synthetic playing surface.

Starting next year, the Pirate football team will be playing home games on synthetic turf.
The Sinton ISD board of trustees voted Monday night to allocate a portion of the district's fund balance to fund the $800,000 project at Pirate Stadium which will also include renovations to the all-weather track.

Superintendent Steve VanMatre, after visiting with Athletic Director Tom Allen, SISD Maintenance Director Donald Mercier, trustees and members of the community, recommended the re-designation of funds and holding off on plans to expand the weight room at Sinton High School's field house-a project he says will still be carried out in the future.

Yeah I forgot about La Grange's, theirs was pretty good. I still liked Giddings better when they had grass.
