Come on, 4 games into the season?

A lot of teams should have won.

I would figure the superstitious fans would be totally annoyed by the. I know I would be.

No disrespect to Brownwood, but I go Dangerfield until the end of December.

Daingerfield would be in the backfield every play. They were so quick that when the ball was hiked to the QB they were on him like white on rice before he could even hand the ball off. With today's spread offenses I still don't think it would've made a lot of difference for that defense because every player on their defense was big and fast and could cover. The QB would likely not have time to get the ball off, and if he did the receiver wouldn't be ready because he would be covered like a blanket. You would've had to have seen that defense to believe it, though. It would be interesting to pit that defense against some of the better offenses of today, but I think the results would have been similar.

Brownwood easy, Those guys are all in their 40's now. I could not run all the way out on the field much less play a game!

If they ever did play the energy emitted by these two would be enough to make the earth collapse on itself into a black hole leaving Dangerfield and Brownwood to duke it out in space until the end of time since they are both too awesome to beat eachother!!!

I won't vote since I did not see either team. I'm tempted to vote Daingerfield, but only because of B'wood fans, not the team!:D

I think Daingerfield would have jammed those talented receivers of Brownwood every play and not have let them off the line of scrimage and ate the QB. Just my opinion.

You missed the best defense ever seen at any level, in my opinion, and I've seen a lot of defenses over the years. What that team did defensively will never be duplicated. At least, not in our lifetimes. Have you seen some of the records they set?

Ding, ding! We have a winner! That defense was FAST! There were 4 players on that team that went on to the NFL, if I'm not mistaken. It could've been 3, but my memory fades.......;) I think Thomas Everett may have graduated a year earlier.

Don't know how accurate this is but:

11 college players including 3 D1 running backs and 5 players who played in the NFL.

1983 Daingerfield Tigers

Record: 16-0 (Finished 3rd in National Poll)

Points for: 631 (39.4 avg)
Points against: 8 (0.5 avg)
Shutouts: 14 (National Record)

Notable information: First team in Texas to finish 16-0. Defense scored 76 points and held opponents on average to less than one foot per play. 8 points allowed entire season, 0 points yielded on defense (1 safety, 1 interception returned for TD). Outscored regular season opponents 385-8, playoff opponents 246-0 (5 playoff opponents with 10+ wins). Defensive backfield won 4x400m relay state championship.

I voted Daingerfield, only because of what I have read about them.

Brownwood has let people score on them this year.....that tells me all I need to know!!

I honestly don't know which of the following players were on the 83 team but all these guys played in the NFL and are from DF. Something special about the gene pool in DF for a town that small to have 13 former NFL players.

David Whitmore, DB, Giants, 49ers, Chiefs, Eagles
David Mims, WR, Falcons
Thomas Everett, S, Steelers, Cowboys, Bucs
Eddie White, RB, Broncos
Eric Everett, DB, Eagles, Bucs, Chiefs, Vikings
Gregg Evans, WR, Bills, Redskins
Eric Turner, DB, Dolphins
Gary Lewis, LB, Packers
Rodney Lewis, Patriots
Lonnie Moore, Dolphins
John Rodgers, TE, Steelers
Art Moore, DT, Patriots
Darryl Lewis, TE, Browns

credit goes to the historical section on smoaky for this info

That is cool! Where did you find that? There were a lot more players on that team who I think that if they would've kept their head on straight could've gone on to be NFL players. They had a whole lot of talent, size, and speed on that team.

Would they use 1983 style officiating or 2010 style officiating?

I think if they used '83 style Daingerfield wins and 2010 style Brownwood wins.

The rules haven't changed that much. Daingerfield would still smoke 'em..... I doubt Brownwood would get out of their end of the field.

That's what they say, but I really don't think it would matter......;) That was the best defense I've ever seen at any level bar none. Like I said earlier, you would've had to have seen them play to get any idea what I'm talking about. The offenses of today "may" have more success than the offenses of that era, but the results would've been the same, in my opinion. Instead of opponents averaging less than 1 foot per play, they might average a yard per play. That still ain't good enough.

the game was simulated on a website and the recap is as follows...

Simulation Result
1983 Daingerfield Tigers 72
2010 Brownwood Lions 42

Game Recap- The 1983 Daingerfield Tigers managed a solid win over the 2010 Brownwood Lions. The 2010 Brownwood Lions played a hard fought game but just came up short. A spokesman for the 1983 Daingerfield Tigers says that they are ready to take on another team. All in all, the fans did get to see a lot of scoring in this game.

This thread is about 12 weeks too early. If Brownwood does what I think they can do, it will be an interesting thread.

Exactly... So Dfield ain't that good and Gilmer may be a little better than people give them credit for. Neither team can hold Brownwoodd's jock, let alone sniff it.
