Reggie Garrett, QB for West Orange Stark died during Friday night's game with Jasper. It is fitting that we honor him with the designation as 3A Downlow Player of the Week. Class 3A is a large extended family in the State of Texas, and we all deeply feel the loss of this young man. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, coaches, teammates and community.

I have many international friends on my FaceBook page, having lived overseas in the past. I posted it there, and prayers have flown in from all of the world, from all corners of the earth for this young man.

very very sad story. reminds us all that though we love this game, it is still just that, a game, and the kids/family/friends that entertain us every week are far more important than W's and L's. RIP Reggie Garrett, you will be missed by many.

This is tough beyond comprehension. I love watching the game of football, but know that possible tragedy is always just one step away.

Clearly, this will be a very tough thing for his family, the WO-S fans, and everyone involved to work through. Speaking from a long memory, Jasper was on the other end of something like this over 50 years ago. Twice in two years. I would say it took the town years to heal, but I am not sure the healing is completely done. This sad event in Orange brought back some tough memories for me as surely as had it been a Jasper player.

Orange, best wishes in dealing with your unspeakable loss.

I think I speak for most (if not all) of Wimberley when I say we have had the community of Orange in our thoughts all weekend, and our prayers for the family as well.

It's because of HS football that everyone in Wimberley knows where Orange is. It's because of this board that this tragedy has hit me harder than it normally would have due to the friends and fellow football fanatics from WO-S that I have met here. I am thinking of you too, guys. Hang in there....

Gilmer lost a young man during a game in the late 60's or early 70's, I was just a kid, but I was at the game. Eddie Ray Hayes. No, you never forget and questions are never fully answered. Our only consolation is in the Lord in times like these. God's peace is prayed for this family, this community, and for every one whose memories have been brought back to a very sad, personal time.
