The game is a little sloppy. It looks like a practice game almost. The play on D is not as bad as it sounds but we are missing more tackles than we should be. The o is very plain. Jacob is just a little off like a foot or two here or there or this game would be getting even further out of hand.

Melissa is 2A but they will likely move up next re-alignment

They have been a decent playoff team in 2A for the last five years or so, since they moved up.

I thought MELISSA WAS 2a? I am sure the coachs know that the town can't take another year like last year. Thats what you get when you duck the big boys , a 2A sch. Celina had a great run but its over. Iam sure they will go 10-0 with a first or second round exit, but all the pumkins heads will feel better at 10-1.

Mark did not know he was off the air. His cell phone was the culprit. Celina 40 Melissa 0. Celina 461 yards total offense to Melissa 167. Mark indicated the defense was much better tonight as did some of the players in their interviews after the game.

My take on the game boring. Looked like the coaches had a plan to work on the spread and they did a good job anybody who knows Celina knows they don't run the spread hardly at all, but might need it in the playoffs. Defense was better the dline got good penetration all night, but the d has to learn to wrap up better. All in all the coaches had a plan to work on different things and that's what they did a win is a win although it looked like practice tonight.

My take is...

You are right, it was much like a scrimmage as it was so not a typical Celina night. What you are calling the spread is not the spread it looks more like a tempo based passing game.

On O, the problem that I see, and I am not a coach and really just an ex-olineman with that limited perpective, is that we are not throwing on tempo. Jacob is a very accurate and patient passer particularly with the long ball. He is not however 6'4" nor is he designed to roll out. We are fairly tall on the oline and in order to make it all work we tend to "cut" the Dlineman to get their hands down and allow Jacob a clear passing lane. As a a long ball thrower, Jacob does not release the ball on tempo while the lineman are on the ground as he awaits a receiver to clear deep or on the wheel. This makes it look like he is getting pressure and that the o-line have missed their assignment as the dline gets up and proceeds to the QB. We either need more mid length routes or we need to use a more tradition pass pro. I know our oline can give him all day in pass pro if given the chance.

On D, Melissa made things right as they tried to primarily run the ball. They are the first team since Ranchview to not air it out all night and only went 3-10. Last weeks D would have had the same result so I am not sure anything is different defensively. I was glad to see Tanner suited up and I know we will be much better on the Dline when he returns next week. Dline seems to be getting deeper as there where at least 3 new faces in the mix and game day alternatives are always welcome. Keller had a good game but nothing different than he has ever done as he is a solid LBer when the Dline keep blockers off of him.

What I like the most is that this team seems dis-satisfied with a 40-0 win. They know that they are working on new skills that they will need later in the season but also know that if the mission was to put the hammer down then they missed the mark last night.

Unfortunately, I see don't see the next challenge clearly and I hope that they are mature enough to get better each week even when they don't need to get better to get the W. I don't think that they got better last night as best I can tell. But what do I know...

I think they got better in one regard. They worked on strengthening another facet of their offense. Anything they can show on film gives defenses something else to think about. Jacob was just a smidgin off on a couple of throws otherwise it would have looked a lot cleaner. I think he can play that O and hit the targets and the guys were getting open and good position.

You are an idiot!

Prosper has the numbers, facilities, money to be 4A... They should be beating schools with half the enrollment, and did beat Celina the last two times they played. What happened the prior 10, 15, 20 times they played?

what the hell are you talking about? prosper had one good team and one decent team that beat two celina teams that could barely be considered mediocre, and i'd say last years team was well below mediocre. those losses to prosper had nothing to do with the coaches evolving this offense. they finally got a good qb who can throw (although they had one the last two years and were just too dumb and stubborn to make the change), and they realize the more balanced we can make the offense, and the more threats we can put on the field, the worse we can make the opponent look. you don't need to talk to celina about playing "big dogs"... check your uil archives, celina is one of the big dogs. the joke is how prosper had one good team and suddenly they're so experienced and have established some sort of dynasty. how's this year shaping up for the eagles by the way?

Prosper was irrelevant for over 20 years, then became relevant for 2, now on their way to being irrelevant again. What else are they going to say to us except, "you were scared to play us..."? They have nothing else.

I don't think "dumb" is the right adjective. They may be loyal to a fault particularly when a coaches son is involved but they are far from dumb. Same QB carried them to the SC the prior year and was a passing threat off of the sprint out until he hurt his shoulder. Celina had the talent with a healthy Cody or Garrett to make it to the finals last year, what they did not have was the passion. This team has the talent and the chemistry to do what ever they decide they want to do. (save beat Brownwood... head drooped).

I think that most Celinians find humor in "Propser Pride" in light of the history. They are a little like an offensive lineman scoring a touchdown and not being able to help himself and receiving an excessive celebration penalty. In fact we have now seen a two year excessive celebration penalty in Prosper. Take your 15 yards and return to your huddle.

Act like you have been there before... Oh wait you have'nt. We should forgive them their giddiness it is very exciting afterall.

well i think dumb is the right adjective, just tagged the wrong way. perhaps what i should've said was the decision to stick with the same failing qb, and not the coaches themselves, was very dumb. and people can say he led us to the finals, but IMHO mccartney led that team to the finals. last years team was one of the biggest underachieving celina teams that i've ever seen, most of that credit due to the poor attitude/leadership of some of those seniors. but i find what you said about prosper's recent success hilariously true. everytime i go over to eat at the cotton gin cafe it's funny to see how much eagle pride they have. it'll be even funnier to watch how it fades now as the team returns to the murky, forsaken depths of mediocrity.

Why does any thread about Prosper or Celina always turn into a Prosper vs Celina war? I'm from old school Prosper and I crack up at all of this. I have some great friends from both towns and I know plenty of idiots from both towns. Bottom line is Celina has one of the best traditions and history in Texas HS football. It's a fact. That history isn't going away. It's also a fact that Prosper has grown and has gotten pretty descent in sports. The rumor that Celina is scared to play Prosper is just stupid. The rumor that Celina would kill Prosper this year is also just plain stupid. Everyone knows Prosper has a tough schedule this year. Who can deny that? (with Alvarado (descent) then having Bridgeport, Argyle & Love Joy in a 3 week span). Everyone also knows that Celina has a softer schedule than usual. Who cares, both teams will be in the playoffs and both teams will probably make an exit before the big show this year. The only sure thing is Daingerfield in 2A, the rest is up for grabs. Good luck to both schools....

I would agree with everything except one issue. I believe Celina can make the big dance IF the defense can stiffen. IMHO we cannot stop the run up the middle on the spread. Got to fix that. But if the D tightens the O is good enough to score on almost anybody.

this is why i think Argyle is still a step ahead of us right now, and why we are still vulnerable to Gilmer, Lovejoy or Argyle--although our offense is better than Argyle's IMHO

The problem that I'm seeing on defense is the same problem they had early in the year last year and that is wrapping up the ball carrier. The defenders are in the right position they just need to finish the tackle off. I saw a couple of times last week where they were trying to strip the ball instead of making the tackle. I think Coach Ford will get the problem fixed. The d is not bad just need to wrap up and finish the tackle. I think the dline is getting better as well they were in the backfield alot more last week. With Roos back that might let them play Raulerson more on the dline, he gets double team everytime and that frees up the linebackers you can't block Raulerson one on one. Also Franklin is back at DE and he can handle his side of the line with no problems. The defense should be getting alot better real fast with Raulerson and Franklin on the d.

Raulerson wasn't injured he has been playing right tackle and has done a great job, but I think he is probably needed more on the d side of the ball. With Raulerson, Newman, Levit, Collins and Hambrick that makes a very tough big dline rotation.

WOW!!People are complaining about a shut out--that is amazing!!

Do you think our ranking is purely because our offense

The defense is going to be fine--they came up against 3 good offenses and then through a shutout on someone they should of.

With the corrections made by putting KA at middle, TF and DR at the 2 ends, the dline getting their rotation going with JR,BN,AH,SL,TC and dbacks building confidence this D is building to a solid team not that they already aren't.

If the offense can continue to improve and the D continues to come together we could be in for a great season.

For all of the Bcats who constantly complain about the kids(do you think they dont read this) why don't you read other teams on here--do you think they say negatives about their undefeated team----if you think you can coach this team any better I am sure Butch will make time to listen about how important you are and how you could run this team better. If not keep your negative chatter up in the stands

Hey cool the jets. I believe in the guys.
It was good to see Tanner and Roos suited up last week. Tanner is needed in the dline rotation. He is a good de. I feel with him back the rotation will solidify. I just happen to be one of the believers in the spread. An attack d can overrun the back and makes you susceptible to runs up the middle. I am not going to coach the highschool at any time but I do recognize the issues

All the boys can do is beat who is on their schedule. I thought Prestonwood was very good offensively and Pilot Point was tougher than I expected. With that being said, we certainly have things to improve upon, as most teams do (except Brownwood) this time of year. Still, I like the heart of this senior class and just want to see them get better each week. We may not really be tested until the playoffs, but I won't make any predictions. One week at a time.

After last year's frustration, I am just thankful, and praying for, health for 52 every week.

We tried to make it easy on you with leaving a number off of his. You take Keith's 7 and my 6, add them up and divide by 3 and you get the cumulative IQ of celina on a 1000 scale. That's simple math, didn't wanna confuse you with having to add 3 numbers.

Because you cannot predict in any fashion what the teams will be next year when you schedule them. Last year there were two state title teams that agreed to play us. Don't know how much tougher you can get than that.

Talk about easy pre-district schedules. The pre-season #1 wins that award not Celina and they are not even undefeated. Of the current AP Top 10 WOS gets the brass balls award for stepping up. Most all others pretty darn close to each other.

You can call Coach Ford Coach Duck-alot if it makes you feel better to insult. I have known Coach Ford a little over 40 years and know him to be a fine man and a very fine football coach. In the last eight years as head coach of Celina High School he has won 100 games and lost 14 not counting this year. That's 114 games, an average of 14.25 games a year, a little over averaging quarterfinals every year. Not bad.

In eight years he has reached the state finals four times and won two state championships. Half of the losses Celina has had in the last eight years came to eventual state champions. Since Celina was undefeated in two of those seasons, the loses have come in six seasons. How many teams in eight years have played seven state champions, and won state twice? I bet you wont find a lot.

You go ahead and call him names and be insulting, I will go ahead and continue to appreciate and respect all he has accomplished over the years in his career. If you wanted to be factual you might call him coach wins a lot.

As a matter of fact, you might find some other team to advise, as Celina seems to have gotten along pretty well with out you or your valuable knowledge of how to build and maintain a successful football and athletic program.

I guess there is not much the idiots who keep up this "coach Ford is scared" crap can say to these facts. I have no idea what did or didn't happen when Celina set their schedule last year. But scheduling falls to the head coach, and can be a bit of an art form depending on what he thinks is best for the team he has that year. Ultimately, the goal of EVERY coach is to win state championships. Based on that, and the above FACTS, anybody who continues to criticize Coach Ford and the way he schedules just makes themselves look really foolish.

You know a coach is a manager of sorts. His goal is to get his business, which is team, in the best postion and mindset to be successful. In football in the State of Texas, not many can compare with Coach Ford's management of his job. He seems to be rather successful in getting his team to the championship game more than others. I remember when Celina moved up and wasn't supposed to be able to compete in 3A. First year lost to Liberty Hill in the last few seconds in the state game 22-19. Went 15-1 doing so. The next year they went 16-0 and won it all. The next year they lost to Carthage which was a heck of a team. I think if I was going to hire a coach Coach Ford would be first on my list. His philosophy and methodology of winning is better than any one Pick6, Keith7, or sandbagger can bring up. Coach Ford puts those kids in position to win and instills a desire in them to do so. It carries on in their lives after they graduate in their work ethic in life. No you can't beat Coach Ford and his staff in managing what they are given each year. You can be jealous and throw darts like "scared to play Podunksville" or "Maroon World Beaters" or any other team, But it doesn't matter long term when you are buying tickets to watch them play for it all while your team is busy dribbling, now does it?
