but I believe Edgewood (SA) Memorial might have the states longest losing streak......and it might just come to an end tonight as they match up with Austin's Eastside Memorial...............Go Minutemen.

being a part of the states longest losing streak is NOT fun. When I first got to this school we had the states longest at 31

You learn more about yourself in losing than you do in winning.

There is about a 99% chance it will unless they are worse.

Winning every now and then is good for one's self-image.

Too bad my voice is only good for DJ rave parties and selling stuff at the last minute on Sundays at your local used car dealer.:D

Memorial's Nigel Cardenas (11) gets congratulated by teammate Victor Rodriguez (84) after Cardenas scored the winning touchdown. Kin Man Hui/Express-News

Memorial offensive coordinator Leon Aleman kept repeating “it's over,” as he watched the end of a 43-game on-field losing streak turn into pure joy.
Once Memorial clinched a 19-13 victory against Austin Eastside Memorial on Thursday night, senior Nathanael Ramirez kissed the ground.

Quarterback Nigel Cardenas grabbed the game ball and wouldn't let go.

Offensive lineman Hector Castillo, a team captain, was in tears along with some of the 800 Memorial fans at Mata Stadium.

For a Minutemen team that hadn't felt victory since Oct. 28, 2005, every player knew how to celebrate once they broke the streak.

“This is our Super Bowl,” Ramirez said. “This is our Fiesta and our Fourth of July, too. This is every holiday you can think of for us.”

It took an incredible finish for the Minutemen to get the victory, with Cardenas scoring the winning 6-yard touchdown on a quarterback keeper with 11 seconds left.

Eastside Memorial had just taken the lead on a 95-yard TD run by Desmine Shaw with 55 seconds left. But a long kickoff return by Mark Molina and a 37-yard pass from Cardenas to Alex Cruz helped set up Memorial's first game-winning points in 1,784 days.

“We had to get it,” Cardenas said. “We worked so hard. We all knew this was possible.

“And we got a ‘W.'”

Cardenas accounted for all three of Memorial's scores, adding a 9-yard TD run and an 11-yard pass to Ramirez in the end zone.

The Minutemen were credited with a victory in 2008 — six months after the season was over — when Burbank forfeited its season because of an ineligible player. The last Memorial victory on the field was a 19-17 victory against Burbank in 2005.

Thursday's win came on the 21st anniversary of a 1989 Memorial victory against Holy Cross that ended a 51-game Minutemen losing streak.

“Forty-three losses is so much to overcome,” said Aleman, who served as head coach on Thursday because coach Manny Martinez had to miss the game because of a family emergency. “But these kids kept fighting through all the tribulations that we've been through.”
