Why should he? Reggie gave his back for NCAA violations.

OJ no longer has his Heisman.

Trivia question: Who is the only Jew to ever be awarded the Heisman Trophy?
A: Ron Goldman

The only reason Bush is handing his back is because his NCAA violations made him ineligible for that 2005 season. Being ineligible, one obviously cannot win the Heisman. THAT is why he is handing it back.

O.J was 100% eligible for his Heisman winning season, therefore he keeps his.

The proceeding From Heisman.com

"the Heisman Trophy Trust of New York City, will award the annual Heisman Memorial Trophy to an individual who deserves designation as the most outstanding college football player in the United States."

As a college football player in the United States you are considered an amateur. Upon accepting those benefits knowingly and willingly Reggie automatically withdrew his amateur status to a professional. Therefore he should have and was not considered eligible in the eyes of the NCAA after the investigation took place.

In my opinion and this is total speculation the Heisman trust told Reggie to relinquish the award to protect his own image or it would be stripped by the trust.

OJ's incident happened years after he won the award. In my opinion to compare these two incidents is like comparing apples to oranges.

Does OJ still get to vote on the Heisman each year?

If Bush wasn't eligible for the vote then maybe they should have to recast their ballots and determine a new winner. I don't see why this shouldn't happen.

Heisman committee just said the award will remain vacant for 2005 because after 5 years it is too late for a revote because "who knows where those votes would have gone with Reggie out of the running." umm I'm pretty sure there are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place votes so maybe whoever voted Reggie first, just see who they voted for 2nd and 3rd and move them up one spot? seriously, simple solution to a simple problem. these people just don't use logic. all politics
