BC CC teams, D'ville boys capture Nederland event

NEDERLAND — Local teams exploded to team victories at the Nederland Cross Country Meet Saturday morning.
The Bridge City boys and girls, competed up in the Class 5A-4A Division, easily won team crowns while the Deweyville Pirate boys walked away with the Class 3A-and-Under Division.
On the girls side, the Lady Cardinals won the title with 27 points while Dayton (47) was second and Port Neches-Groves (51) third.
Lady Cardinal Jessica Franklin won individual honors, covering the two-mile course in 13 minutes, 44.59 seconds. She was followed by teammates Mary Nguyen (3rd, 13:51.82), Bree Fontenot (4th, 13:58.66), Megan Shockley (5th, 14:35.35), Arron Valencia (14th, 15:20.82), Alex Holland (16th, 15:27.98) and Adriane Cude (23rd, 16:08.84).
On the boys side of the ledger, the Cardinals won with 37 points followed by Nederland (45) and Beaumont West Brook (58).
Luke Hebert led the Cardinals, placing fourth with a 17:59.32 over the three-plus mile course. He was followed by teammates Armando Chavez (5th, 18:12.74), Aaron Lejeune (7th, 18:16.30), Kirby Shepherd (10th, 18:26.07), Brock Jones (11th, 18:33.99), Eric Chesson (19th, 19:19.83) and Sawyer Hogan (23rd, 19:35.72.
West Brook’s Gabriel Johnson took home top individual honors, running a 17:05.40.
Deweyville won the 3A-and-Under Division with 38 points. Bridge City (46) was second and Hardfin third (65).
Dylon Lambright paced the Pirates, placing fourth with a 20:31.17. He was followed by teammates Lanston Monceaux (7th, 20:55.01), Jacob Howell (8th, 21:10.66), Michael Nolan (9th, 21:21.95), Ty Broussard (15th, 22:34.37) and Daniel Smart (18th, 23:22.48).
Justin Sonnier led the younger Cardinals, nabbing 3rd with a 20:14.36. He was followed by teammates Matthew Wappler (6th, 20:52.91), Dustin Verva (6th, 20:52.91), Raymond Haynes (14th, 22:09.33) and Russell Bozeman (17th, 23:23.58).
Beaumont Kelly’s Logan Morris captured first-place with a time of 19:44.57.
The Bridge City teams will head to Nacogdoches next Saturday to participate in the Lumberjack Invitational at Stephen F. Austin University.
