if LH plays the way they did against Cuero they have a shot. Rockdale is very good. If they play the way they did against CS watch out.

I thought the Panthers were out-coached by China Spring. If Rockdale plays a disciplined, stay-at-home defense like CS did, they have a chance to win. Also, CS threw the ball effectively against the Panthers and kept the defense guessing. I still miss the play calling of Coach Walker.

I honestly don't think Walker was any trickier than the current OC. Walker lost some "big games" Wimberley in 04' and in 05' r just a few. I think if they were each given the same hand the results would be the same.

Here is another way to prove my point. Vance is still the DC...yet the points allowed per game have went up since Walker left. Does that mean Walker was the difference maker on defense also?

Walker used the QB more (keepres, bootlegs) in the LH offense. If the QB fakes aren't respected by the D, the inside yards are tougher to get. Draper doesn't use the QB much. I would trade Draper for Walker right now.

Vance is not the DC...He handed that to Duncan a couple years ago. Vance pretty much let's Draper and Duncan run the games.

Indirectly, yes. The more long drives by the LH offense, the fewer possessions by the opponents offense, i.e. fewer points scored. Football kind of works that way.

I do watch the sidelines. Vance use to call the defensive plays. Have not seen him doing it this year. Also, I have noticed he does not participate in timeout huddles this year. Of course, he always has the right to step in and call something. But, he seems to be more hands-off these days.

I say it all has to do with talent. Remember in 04 against us, your defense couldnt hold us when they really needed to. In 05, our defense was able to hold you guys to only 9 points. In 06, it was about your defense not being able to hold us again on that very important last drive. But then, past that point in the season, your defense grew up and handed you two championships.

I say its your talent, pure and simple.

Agreed. But I also agree that the offense misses Walker.

Talent is always a factor in outcomes. Many times not the dispositive factor but a factor none the less.

Might have something to do with size too. The LH team CS played in 06 and the team I watched beat Bridgeport in Waco in 08 had a huge OL and head hunter LB's. This year's LH team does not have anything near that size or talent.

But anyways, LH is 3-1 with 3 close games against good to decent competition. Gotta like the way they seem to be shaping up into a team that is defense first, I love it. I'll get my first chance to see them this week against Mexia. Hopefully it's a win and we enter district play 4-1!

I don't really know how good Mexia may be. They beat China Spring 45-31 the first game of the year. They lost last night to LaVega 37-36. They have a D1 RB in Gentry, who is supposed to be the real deal.

Actually, Draper talked walker into those types of plays. Current Qb has been out with mono and is working his way back into shape.

Mexia was ahead of CS 28 -7 at half with two TD drives of 10 yards or less (bad snap on punt and fumble on consecutive drives). We fumbled at their 5 yd line going in to tie with less than a minute left in the game. It was returned for a TD. Our two running backs had 340 yards rushing against Mexia. Gentry is very good. He had 199 against CS. QB is not Tre Davis though.

Mexia is probably pretty decent. La Vega is the best team we played in non-district imo and they have potential.
