I have a question I would like some clarification on?? Does piling on the pile at the last minute or as the guy is going down count as an assist for tackles?? We played a team whose stud was pretty much non factor in the game but somehow was credited with 11 tackles on the game ( 4 solo and 7 assist). Just wanting to get some kind of ruling on what is a tackle and what is not??

Usually a player's coaches are the ones who tally tackles and send it in to the paper..etc. Up to their discretion, some want to inflate stats and others try to get it right.

We have some schools in our dist. that if you are standing by the pile you get a tackle!

that is what I think is going on. Just do not understand why but I guess to some coaches they feel they are helping the kid

No doubt it is the DC/HC's discretion how he credits tackles. We had a kid in our district last year that was credited with over 135 tackles who could not have started at linebacker for us and our team leader had 105. He got All State based on bogus numbers.

Same thing has happened the last two years in our district.

tlc,
non-factor is right but I do know he was a part of a few pancake stats.

If by in part of his contact with the ball carrier he goes down he should get an assist. you can have 4 guys getting an assist and one primary takle. IMO

So if your son plays defense tell him to pile on at all cost before the whistle because your stats will increase even though you had nothing do with the "tackle".
