I gave SV the nod at running back. Their Qb is good as well, I just think ours is better. As for the trenches, I said I couldnt give a nod to either yet. We are plenty big but they are bigger. There is so much hype for this game and both teams will have that "chip on the shoulder something to prove" mindset. First and foremost I hope both teams make it out with only the minor bumps and bruises. You know as well as I do the Jackets play at a different level for this game. It has been this game the last two years that Sville has put it all together and went on big winning streaks. I respect Bwood I really do. I know they are very capable of beating the Jackets. I picked the 41 points b/c I think we will score on defense. We scored 6 defensive TDs and one safety with this bunch last year . And we scored one last week. If we don't score a defensive TD it will be a one possession game either way. I do feel we are better than Bwood after watching yall and as good as your offense is, they still haven't went over 400 yds of total offense against two bad defenses. I realize ST and TO have setup short fields for the Lions but yall have also shown inconsistency with penalties and drops.

Brownwood stats are misleading to say the least as the starters have only played a total of 2 series in the second half this season. One series at Gatesville and one series at home against Graham. Good write up though. I agree with everything you said except the final score. I think you caught a quick case of dislexia when you were typing them. :D

Your team has what, one state title? Congrats... there are tons of teams who don't even have one.

If all we have now are myths and legends, regardless of whether or not we win titles... are we still not a consistent playoff team? Do we still not make deep runs, are we still not talked about as one of the premier teams and a team to look out for? Brownwood's name is on the map for Texas football, I'm sorry that Liberty Eylau's name isn't.

I'd rather have 7 old state championships and be known throughout the state as a contender then have one state championship and an obsession for another team on an internet message board.

Oh, and if you'd like a stat that's a little more recent... we have 646 wins. I believe that's the most in 3A. Ok, time for a serious note here... there's been a lot of talk on how much bigger Stephenville is across the line than we are.

Brownwood offensive line goes: 5'9 195, 5'9 230, 5'10 205, 6'4 275, 6'3 245. Stephenville's 3 defensive linemen go: 5'11 195, 6'0 275, 5'11 200.

I'd say size wise we should hold our own on offense.

Stephenville's offensive line goes: 6'2 230, 6'4 255, 6'3 270, 6'1 265, 6'4 240. Brownwood's three defensive linemen go: 6'1 240, 5'10 205, 6'1 215.

Big big size advantage for Stephenville.

That does concern me a little when you consider our offense usually doesn't have long drives (either score fast or don't score)... our D is gonna be out there a long time against those big boys... maybe those big boys will get tired first!

I do like our matchups in the secondary on both sides of the ball though. Sville's two corners are both 5'10... going against Shipley at 6'2 with a heck of a vertical and Chastain at 6'0. Sville does have a 6'2 safety that is supposed to be their defensive stud that I bet we see helping out on Shipley a lot.

Stephenville's starting receivers are 5'8 155 and 5'11 190. Once again I think we'll match up okay in the secondary on both sides of the ball.

Your assessment is valid, but one big concern in playing 4As is depth. Sometimes the falloff between their starters and subs can be nill and they freely sub while driving the field. It will be important for B'woods D to stop drives in order to prevent fatigue and to rotate as many players as often as possible. If S'ville sustains drives it will limit the # of possessions that B'wood gets. B'wood will also have to be deliberate on offense scoring is a must but so is giving the D a breather.

Games such as this are decided in the line and by execution without turnovers.

“Very explosive,” was Stephenville coach Joseph Gillespie’s description of Brownwood. “They were a dangerous football team last year and they’ve got the vast majority of their kids back.

“They’re well-seasoned and playing very well, so this is going to be a great football game and I’m looking forward to it.”

Stephenville has impressed as well, opening with a 20-3 loss at Aledo that saw the Yellowjackets outgain the defending Class 4A Division II state champions only to fall to a handful of big plays.

The ’Jackets enter the Brownwood game averaging nearly 400 yards offensively, including a combined 233 yards rushing from James Myles.

Myles in particular, was troublesome for Brownwood last year, tallying 131 yards rushing, 89 yards receiving and scoring three times.

“It’s a typical Stephenville team,” Brownwood coach Bob Shipley said. “They’re really big up front, they’ve got big backs who can pound you and they’ve got a great group of receivers and a quarterback who can pick you apart. ... Obviously, we’ve got to find a way to slow down their offense. ... It will be a huge test for us.”

Myles will be the difference again. But with Brown and Shipley healthy, this is going to be a good one.

Hey, I was a junior on that team and I'm now 45. It's not like it was in the dark ages. However, I guess when you're in your teens or early 20s it seems like a long time ago. I do remember when I was in school, I thought the guys that won titles for the Lions in the 60s were old. :D
