Starting shortly. Just found out our shutdown corner K.J. Nelms, really the one I consider the leader of the defense, is done for the year with a torn ACL. That will hurt if nobody steps up.

NOTES:

Navasota's defense allowed only one offensive touchdown to an athletic and much larger 4A program. However, the Rattler offense allowed two defensive touchdowns and gave up a safety immediately following what could have been a momentum breaking interception. Overall, if Navasota doesn't turn the ball over, this would have been a blowout. On the other side, Willis' offense didn't capitalize on the turnovers their defense didn't score on. Good defensive showing by Navasota, and good yardage showing by the Rattler offense. Need to limit the mistakes. Rudder is next week, and they just creamed Rouse 63-20. They will be more athletic than Willis, and it will be played in Bryan at Merrill Green Stadium. Rudder should be looking for revenge after two years of being blown away by the Rattlers.

This Navasota team is very hard to guage. They have a productive offense that puts up 500 + yards on a pretty good defensive team from Willis and scored 34 points, but they made so many mistakes (fumbles and interceptions). At times the QB made some really great decisions and at other times he looked lost.

The Rattler running game is dangerous and consistently gained good yardage out of the I formation and the spread.

Defensively the Rattlers effectively shut down the run until they were playing more of aprevent style of defense. Then Willis was able to break of some pretty good gains. The Rattler defense intercepted about four passes and caused one fumble. Hard hitting and swarming defense and getting better each week. Great linebackers and about six deep at that position. Defensive backs cover one on one and can make up alot of ground fast.

If the Rattler offense can put together a full game and the defense keep playing the way they are now, this can be a better team than last years group and that is far better than I expected.

Overall, the Rattlers played a good game. What a difference a week of practice has made. And to think that the offense would struggle this year...Silly Me!

Lookout, the Rattlers could be a dangerous team come playoffs.

Go Snakes!
