I think there are basically two kinds of motivations which cause posters to apply the "overrated" tag:

1. They just dislike a certain team---usually a rival, who is poised to make a good run.

2. The truest---a team loses to a team they should have beaten easily.

They pulled off an great playoff run after barely beating glen rose first round last year to a horrible call on the last play but they did show they can contend with the best

I think Region II, with the addition of Gilmer and Carthage, along with Henderson, Celina, Pittsburg, and Liberty-Eylau is perhaps the strongest region, with Region I coming in a close second overall. Region III was definitely the strongest last year with the two state champs, and maybe the last couple of years, but this year I don't think so. We'll see how it plays out though.

Sorry, Gordo, we have no control over where that magic line falls to make up the regions. Some strong ones and weak ones in all 4 I feel certain. I think it's a bit early to already be "dissin" Region 4. I know y'all are gonna do it, just try hold off a bit. :tisk:

The way I see it ....there is a district in each region that dominates...RI---the Brownwood-Wylie dist, RII Gilmer-Carthage Dist...........RIII probably Giddings-Navasota dist......Region IV I would go with Cuero- LaVernia..............now there are few teams after that there are teams that are solid...but fact is week in week out the kids go to practice and play....as hard as they can...........regardless of region.

Since 1999 There has been 7 different teams from R4 that made it to the championship game with one winning title. One year two teams made the title game (Bandera and Burnet) with Bandera winning the title. That means they had to beat a R3 team to get to the title game. That means 7 of the last 10 years at least one team from R4 beat a team from R3 in the semi's.:D

We shall see....2nd in district with perhaps a 7-3 record and maybe 2 rounds deep in the playoffs at best.....Yeah, I would say you guys started the season overrated! Sucks having that big ole target on your backs doesn't it...... Tougher schedule this year and everyone is bringin their "A" game against you. Combine that with the fact that your QB is probably 75% of your offense and that he is injured right now and I would say you are overrated. Still have not won a district title yet and I doubt you will again this year (Prosper), however you probably will get to give Farmersville some major payback this year. You guys are a good team, but not top 5 in the state in my opinion...

I call BS. They may be overrated, we will have to wait and see. But when you lose that many starters at one time, it can destroy a team. When one of them is the Qb it can cripple an offense, then you take away some of the backups blockers, the O is done.

They actually back it up on the field though, year in and year out.

I would like to add Somerset. They're picked to win District 27-3A and make a run in the playoffs based on players they had a year ago but failed to make the playoffs. They were 6-4 and lost 3 of 4 district games down the stretch. They lost to Hondo (a district foe) 26-6, needed a last second TD to beat 2A Dilley. They opened the 2010 season with a 48-42 shootout win over Holy Cross. Holy Cross was 4-6.

I was just picking at the Sinton posters. I actually think rankings this early in the season are useless. Everyone in District 30 knows Sinton has a great program.(I can't believe I said that.) It will be another battle between Sinton, Mathis and Ingleside. Rockport-Fulton could figure in the mix too.:D

Being a backup for one team doesn't mean you aren't as good as the starters for another team! Of course Lovejoy would be better than they currently are IF they had all their starters healthy but the teams they compete with would also be better if they had 500 more students to choose from like Lovejoy does! Perhaps the injuries have simply leveled the playing field!

Only beating Manor by 1 on a last second TD tells me that if they are loaded, they have a lot of "coaching up" to do on that talent. Granted, they started slow against Manor last year, too, but they didn't almost lose it. Manor was only 2-8 last year, and Lampasas has a lot back, but from a 4-7 team.

But I'll turn it around and ask you this...which team in Region 4 presents as big of a threat (or even close) to Wimberley than Cuero? Then reverse the teams in that question.

Fair enough SintonFan. I guess i am working off of what the pre-season rankings are (which, despite their flaws, do give some insight), added with what I have seen as compared to past champion teams I have witnessed.

We all know the "on any given day" mantra, every team is beatable. But with that said, can you tell me about the talent level on these teams? Returning starters, recruited players...anything that sticks out? i am asking honestly, I havent heard any talk at all about either team this year.

Just to name a few from the 3A ranks around San Antonio.

Sam Houston has some div. 1 talent on their D-line.




Also, the thing about Hondo is that their average player is pretty good, too.

Not saying Sinton won't beat them Friday night, but they do tend to get much out of all their players... kinda like PI does. Or maybe PI tends to get maximum performance like Hondo does, since Hondo has such a successful history in HS football. Those boys there are Corn-fed you know? lol

Don't forget La Vernia might be strong this year, too.

Robstown has a real good offense this year.
Inlgeside has many talented young players.
Sinton should be fine if the have less injuries.

Don't know about the Valley this year. I hope footbalgal can fill us in soon?:)

Agreed! Brookshire and Giddings game was the best game I've seen in awhile really enjoyed it a lot wouldn't mind seeing them in playoffs again

Watched him play, not impressed! I'm not blasting him at all. But you come on here talking like he is Bo Jackson. Well...he ain't. He was probably the 3rd or 4th best player on the field from what I saw.

Charlie47, when your team starts the season ranked as highly as Lovejoy was and then loses their first game (no matter the margin), it's logical that some would label them overrated. Even if you just look at the stats from that game, without taking the final score into consideration, Lovejoy did not live up to their preseason hype. Try not to take it so personally. It's early....lots of football left to be played.

Charlie, I understand what you are saying. However, 90% of the posters on this board love nothing more than to grill Brownwood for any loss. When we had our injuries last year, we were making excuses according to most on here. Wylie took us to the woodshed in a game that we used 4 Qbs but if we brought that up, it was just excuses. Don't go slamming Brownwood. I even posted that LL wasn't overrated in your defense.

The only problem is, some of us have thicker skin than others. Personally, I feel some of the adulterated pictures go overboard. I would just say this, it's all fun and games until you piss the wrong person off. Then you can never tell where its going to end. I think the mods should keep a handle on this and not let posters put up edited photos of others. (Even tho' they are idiots)... :D
