Why is Brownwood ranked 1#. How far did they go in the playoffs last year. How many starts have coming back, sorry i don't know very much about them never seen them play. Did AW beat them last year? Only way we would play them is if we meet in the SC so i was just asking. Sure someone can fill me in.

Brownwood is ranked #1 because we have 18 Starters returning off a 10-3 Team that beat Graham (last year's state finalist who lost by 1 point). Brownwood was a Co-District Champ with 2 State Finalists last year (Graham and Wylie). Brownwood did this with a converted WR who had never played QB. Among those 18 starters are Jaxon Shipley and Derek Longoria who are BIG players on both sides of the ball. Besides those 2 players, there are many other weapons that can easily score (Chastian scored off a 40 yard strike without breaking stride). Our RB's are Ratliff at 6-0 205 and Longoria 6-1 215. Ratliff is a 2nd Year Starter and a Junior. Our starting QB, Brown, also won the 7 on 7 MVP.

Preparing to stop Jaxon Shipley changes a whole team's defensive scheme. You either double team him or you do the unthinkable and man up on him. Either way, you leave an area of the secondary wide open and we have 3 more strong WR's to catch the ball in those empty spaces. Shipley regularly catches balls being double teamed. He is that good. Oh and if you want to punt the ball to him, good luck with all that. Our defense is also very strong. After t his last offseason, they are bigger and stronger and faster and have a 13 game season under their belt.

We also have a great staff led by Shipley and Merkett (from the Sville Luker-Cardwell era) on Offense. These are coaches that were successful in 5A and know how to run a very elusive spread system and we have the kids that can execute it.

Brownwood is ranked #1 bc they won like 6 titles 50 years ago and they couldnt do it in 4A so they moved them down to 3A few years ago and ranked them in top 5 every year so this might be the lucky year..and and and and

I asked around about Brownwood and the Judge that is right downthe hall lived there back in the 50's. Says the town is around the size of Mt. Peasant and they are 4a. If just going off last year and Brownwood lost to AW and most those boys are comming back hmmm makes me wonder. That last week all AW said was how they were going to roll us over. That did not even come close to happening so I hope we get to play yall.

Who from Wylie said they were coming to roll Gilmer? :confused: Yes, Wylie fans supported their team, as ALL fans should, but I don't recall a lot of "we know we are gonna whip Gilmer" kind of talk. I do recall Wylie posters coming back on this board after the game and praising an amazingly talented Gilmer team.

You might want to get at least SOME of you facts straight. Brownwood has won 7 (not 6) State Championships and the winning STARTED 50 years ago...they didn't WIN them all 50 years ago. This will be the Lions 3rd season in 3A and last year they weren't in anyones top 5 coming off of a 3-7 season the year before. If they win it this year (and that is a big if), they will be winning SC's at a 33% clip. That would be pretty good, don't you think? BTW...didn't Monahans move down from 4A a few years ago too? How many championships have y'all won since the move?.....Didn't think so.

When Brownwood played Wylie last season, we didn't have our backup QB situation handled. Our backup went out with a knee injury and we played musical QBs for 2.5 Quarters until we found somebody that could complete a pass. Once we got that handled, we were a completely different team. We couldn't even get a first down against Wylie because of our QB situation. It was ugly. We were very young last season. Now all of those kids are Seniors. It is like night and day. Trust me, our ranking is deserved.

This year were going to be putting up big numbers if were going to win, Defense is young and light. Very fast but there going to have to give the O some stops if were going to be playing in the Playoffs.
