View Full Version : Tuloso-Midway (4A) @ Ingleside

Looking forward to this game for two major reasons:

1.) Ingleside has a very young team and lost many starters to graduation. From what I understand, Ingleside has plenty of speed on both the Offense and Defense, but they lack size on the line. How are they going to handle a team that has some size???? and I believe TM has some decent sized boys

2.) Is this really going to be a rebuilding year or a reloading year? Coach Hesseltine has done an excellent job the last six years utilizing the talent he has and using the team’s strengths and weaknesses to an advantage.

TM gave Mathis a run for their money and I believe Mathis has a really good team this season. This game may very well be a good gauge of where the Mustangs are or need to be before district play starts.

Anyone else… thoughts? Ideas?

This season is going to be interesting indeed.

Tuloso's slot offense was stifled by Mathis and they were only able to have offensive success through the air. I think Ingleside should handle them well if they play disciplined defense.

I won't be surprised if you guys come out and take a big lead. But then again this game could be close.
lol
How's that for thoughts?;)

Ingleside's passing game will be the key I think. QB McHugh passing to WR McHugh (twin brothers) will determine the outcome. Ingleside's running backs have speed and talent but they are small and inexperienced. If the OL can handle TM then the running game will have some success.

Ingleside +7

Word on the street is that some of the players on the varsity squad may have been suspened for this game due to hazing. can anyone confirm this? i have also heard that the Jv game has been canceled and that they have been moved up to the v-squad. the freshmen game is still on. would anybody with knowledge of the situation like to shed some light on this??

It is very possible. There was incident where some upper classmen were spanking the freshmen. Hence, the scrimmage with Victoria East was cancelled. I don't know how many players were involved. There is a good chance that Hesseltine did suspend the players involved. I will try to get more info.

If it is true, they made their bed and now they have to lay in it. When I was in high school we used to beat up on each other all the time.. :D but in this day and age they just can't do that.

I think the parents get more upset than the students by this kind of activity. When I went to school the freshmen expected to receive some kind of "abuse". It was tradition. I don't ever remember anyone being hurt badly. You are right about it not being acceptable anymore. Bunch of crybabies in school now.:D

Everyone is being very "hush, hush" about it. I have talked to a couple of people at the school and they say they don't know anything. My wife is subbing at the high school today. I asked her to see if she could find out what is going on. She probably will not do it but maybe!

Back in the day the seniors would gab the freshmen and dump them at the bay at lunchtime.i don't remember the parents ever finding out.

T-M is going to give Ingleside a worse spanking than the hazing Ingleside pulled on each other last week. LOL.... I guess they were preparing themselves for this game the best way they knew how.

In all seriousness. Ingleside looked pretty good for their first game and with a team that doesn't bring back a lot of experience. They started out slow offensively, but the defense made huge plays all night long. I believe Ingleside had 4 forced turnovers and gave away two as well. WR's (don't know names of players) were making the catches and the McHugh twin wr was making some excellent catches. Things looked promising from this first game. From what I noticed is that Ingleside has 2-3 kids with some size on the O and D line, but in regards to years past we are small in comparison. We have plenty of speed to go around though. Good job Mustangs!

Here is a write up on the game from the Caller times that was written by Lee Goodard.

Matt McHugh, in his first season as starting quarterback for Ingleside, already had an innate connection with one receiver — his twin brother David.

But Matt McHugh tried to work everybody into the picture Friday night. He, Tyler Hernandez and Marquis Barrolle scored two touchdowns apiece, and the Mustangs defense stifled Tuloso-Midway for the opening three quarters of Ingleside’s season-opening 42-14 romp at Mustang Stadium.

The McHugh-to-McHugh connection worked wonders as well. David McHugh caught half of his brother’s 10 completions for 112 of the team’s 149 passing yards. Twice, the twins hit on 35-yard passes. The first set up Hernandez’s 1-yard run to open the scoring in the first quarter. The second paved the way for Barrolle’s 8-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for a 35-0 advantage.

“I thought I was going to be more nervous than I was,” said Matt McHugh, a receiver last season. “I knew coming in they were going to try to man my brother up and double- or triple-team him. But I knew I had a lot of other players I could trust.”

Matt McHugh, a junior, still is learning the position, taking over for star quarterback Brian Hull. But he showed he still can dazzle with his footwork with a 41-yard scoring run on a 4th-and-6 in the second quarter and a 51-yard breakaway for a touchdown in the fourth.

“We’re not one-dimensional by any means; we never have been,” Mustangs coach Graig Hesseltine said. “We’ve got to get all the skill positions in play. We’ve got to get them the ball. He did a good job of that. Read well at times. He needs to work on ... he missed some throws down the field that I think we’ll need later on.”

Ingleside (1-0) had more experience on defense, with five returning starters as opposed to three on offense. Hesseltine had some concerns about the play up front, but the defense hassled the Warriors the entire game.

Class 4A T-M (0-2) — which lost a tight contest last week to Mathis, another 3A school — had good field position, starting 10 of its 11 drives on its own 34 or better. Three times, the Warriors began drives in Mustangs territory.

But T-M amassed only 39 yards at the half. Heading into their final three drives of the game, the Warriors had only four first downs, with two coming off automatic first-down penalties by the Ingleside defense. The team had four turnovers — including a brilliant diving pick by Hernandez to open the second quarter — that set up three touchdowns.

“We’re like an eight-cylinder engine going on six,” Warriors coach Joe Sendejar said. “We’re making a lot of mistakes. We’re awful young, and we’re making JV mistakes.”

Another miscue occurred in the third when the punter was tackled in his own territory, leading to another Mustangs score. And late in the first half, with the ball at Ingleside’s 5 following a McHugh pick, T-M moved to the 2 but went back 14 yards on a penalty and a sack by Cordell Echols. On fourth down, Matt McHugh batted down a pass at the goal line to keep the Warriors out of the end zone.

“That was a huge defensive stop,” Hesseltine said. “The defense has played extremely well so far. Some of the guys we had question marks about stepped up and played well.”

Good Job Mustangs!
