I dont know what to think about the new scheme ...Ill give it a few more games . It was a good game by the Texans and Cuero needs work on both sides of the ball ... yes it was ugly . Trent earned every yard he got tonight it seemed like we had 2 running plays ... pitch left pitch right and the Texans figured that out pretty quick . The passing game needs work they need to figure out a way to get the ball in #3 ,8 and #32 hands or Trent will be beat up before District .... The Coaches need to add some pass plays with these guys involved with Tunnel Screens , reverses anything . I wont even get into the new Defense we are trying to run but Ill just say it needs a lot of work . The Gobblers played hard but Wimberley figured us out pretty quick on O and D .

My guess is Cuero will be fine. I will say one player doesn't make a team, but it sure can't hurt sometimes.

first td was after a fumble recovery, play action pass td. the receiver made a good play on the ball. second td was t jax doing it all by himself for like 60 yards. 3rd td was a punt return. 4th came after a turnover when cuero took over at wimberley 8 yard line. 5th td actually came on a decent drive. i left before the last one.

Special teams 2 tds and short field *Fumbles by Wimberley2 * Cuero took advatage of both of those ...maybe had to go 20-25 yards for a td . The first play of the game was a nice pass over the middle that #3 out jumped the defender for but after that he was pretty much left out of the play calling # 3 also has a punt return for a td .

Wimberley is a very good TEAM, they have a lot of good solid kids and have some great size, however they were not the faster team, but did what they were good at. They ran north and south and they thew the ball down the field. You did not see hardly anything sideline to sideline, when they did it usually was a loss or no gain. Very impressed with the play from the QB and all the skill guys. Smith is a good back and has a good future ahead of him, he is not super fast but for his size he move good enough and will probably get better.

The Gobblers on the other hand have a lot of question marks. The Gobblers played horrible and had four turnovers and TWO HUGE PENALTIES. And were still in the game the entire night - Most teams that give up 49 points and make four turnover would have no shot in the fourth - Gobblers will be ok, just have to work harder and figure it out.

Defensively - I think it is unfair to say a whole lot at this point, many mistakes on just lining up and being unsure of all assignments. The thing that I did not like to see was how high our lineman and outside backers come in, I saw to many guys standing straight up and get cut or getting pushed around because they have no leverage (small things we must work on). I also was unimpressed with the tackling. Both are signs of a young team which will hopefully get figured out as they mature and play together more. I am not sure what kind of defense we run, Is it a split? 3-4? 5-2? not sure what our base defense. I will give it some time and hopefully the coaches and kids can get it together. One positive was the blitz's that were brought in the first half (havn't seen that in about 8 years).

Offensively - Gobblers not bad, but too many turnovers, you cannot put the ball on the ground. I think they will be fine but why continue to try to run between the tackles? We had more speed and anytime we cut it outside and got out of the box we beat Wimberely to the corner and made yards? I did not like the fact that we continued to try and pound the ball against a line that was bigger and winning the battle aginst us at the line-of-scrimmage. Need to get some plays to get Jackson the ball in the open field so he can make defenders miss. I agree with the comments above - Cuero must get more guys involved; #32, #8, #3, #6 and #29 when he gets his cast off. I did think QB-#10 Blaschke did a great job. Our line was losing the battle all night and he was on the run and did a good job of keeping his eyes down field and finding receivers.

Two things that really bothered me tonight were:
1) Why are the numbers so low in players? I know enrollment is down BUT only 30 guys suit up and ONLY about 18 play? We will not be able to go deep in the playoffs without having some depth. Those kids were gassed tonight (Wimberley was as well).

2) Home game at Gobbler stadium and fans sit on their butts on 3rd down! Are you kidding me! At least stand up, I would prefer you even yell but at least stand up and act like your in the game. Get with it crowd!

I thought the talent level between Wimberley and Cuero was very close, I give Wimberley a slight advantage on the size and line play and I think Cuero was a bit more athletic and faster. We are used to normally being the better and more athletic team, however with our numbers down and a lot of young guys, we will have to out scheme other teams and we will have to flat out GROW UP AS PLAYERS AND BE BETTER.

I think the Gobblers will get better and be fine, like I said before - I still think we are the team to beat in Region IV and nothing less than winning the region should be expected. No easy games this year, Keep working harder!

Really good game, great way to start out the season, very entertaining!! Lots of offense and little D in this one, like said before Cuero took advantage of a short field on a couple turnovers and special teams plays. We had some very good drives and our new QB Lambert looks to be the real deal, Smith had some nice runs late in the game when Cuero was gettin worn down. Jackson is a beast, his YAC had to be through the roof because he hardly ever went down on the first hit. Cuero had problems with snaps and fumbles and that hurt them, Jackson looked to get worn down by the end and they kept pounding him, gonna have to find a backup to give him a break at some point. I thought overall we played a good game and looked way better than in the scrimmages, Cuero has a good team and I have a feeling we will meet again down the road and it can go either way. Good job Texans, great way to start the season and get the momentum going!!

This game was two teams that matched up very even (this early in season). This early in the season people ask, "Why would anyone play someone so good right off the bat". It was perfect for both teams. Now both teams can work on what needs to be fixed. It's all part of getting ready for distric and a run at the playoffs. Both teams had areas that looked better than the other team. The Texans had a huge edge upfront with kids NOT going both ways. In the past Cuero teams that point did not stand out until deep in the playoffs. These kids will be alot better come playoff time when there bodys are used to going so hard for a whole game on both sides of the ball. No heads were down after this game at all, This Gobbler team knows they will meet up with Wimberley in the second round of the playoffs. Last night they had already marked that week down and all those mistakes will be fixed.

Couple notes:

Wimberley had 32 in uniform. We definitely had players going both ways....in particular, our QB (Lambert) and Dennis Smith were in on defense on many occasions...they were almost the only ones who could catch Jackson once he got passed the line. We cant go all year like this, the injuries require us to do this right now against such a talented team like Cuero. We need to fill these gaps...not sure we can.

Yes, it is obvious defense wasnt either teams strong point last night. But guys, you should have seen this Trent Jackson kid. My god, he has talent. I havent seen such abilities in a junior since Earl Thomas of WOS in 2005.

So, I forgive a lot of the scoring against the Texans defense...but not all of it. We need to toughen up and make the first hit count. We cant let receivers get behind us deep. Come on!!!

Cuero will be fine. They are very talented and they are as good as everyone thought at this point. We will meet again later this year. The "takeaway" from this game should be...the Texans are indeed worthy of a Top 10 ranking.

Yes wimbo_pro the Texans are very much a top 10 team. Not just because of last night. They are very good, Teams will see as the season moves along just how good they are. I was talking about the LINEMEN when I was talking about kids from both teams going both ways. Cuero has 6 LINEMEN that play both sides of the ball. That is were I thought The Texans had a BIG edge lastnight.

Good point CueroDad. And we will do this again in the 2nd round of the play offs. This year...and next. May the winner of those games go on to win the D2 Championship!

That is the one thing that really gets on my nerves at a football game. I made that comment last year and someone said that "It's only the beginning of the season, wait till the playoffs."

Those young men give everything they have to win. At least when there at home, let them hear you! I know when I played, that pumped me up when I heard the fans support us.

The Gobblers are going to be fine! We didn't play some chump team down the road like we've done in the past, we played a good team on Friday. This will only make us better.
