Madisonville gets a TD after running the ball right at Navasota from a short field. Navasota had intercepted Madisonville, but was backed up to their own 1. Short punt set up the Madisonville score.

35-7 Navasota.

edit: just realized this score was my prediction. I must have forgotten to say that was my 3 quarter prediction!:nerd:

Looks like it will be Navasota 35-14, as the Mustangs are kicking off with 16 seconds left. If Madisonville had not completed that 4th and 5, 6 yard TD pass, my 35-7 prediction would have held.

Okay, here is my take on this game.

Navasota played very sloppy on offense even though they put up alot of first half points. Execution of the O-line has to get better. Running backs and receivers looked good. QB Ian Day had moments where he looked very good and made some mistakes, but it was his first varsity start. He is a great runner and improvises well under pressure for the most part. Most impressed that when under pressure he did not try to force the ball. Timing was off on some of the passing game and passes were delivered a little late, but that will be corrected. Receivers are big and fast and showed good hands for the most part.

Defensively, the starting 11 looked great. Not alot of size, but great quickness and they just kept charging. The linebackes are the strength--saw 6 different LB's in the first half that are fast, strong, and swarm to the ball. Last year ALL State LB Jones did not play much. Defensive backs were all over the Mustang receivers and played great run support on the corners. This is the best tackling team i have seen at Navasota for a long time.

Madisonville has alot of talent on the defensive side but was overmatched on speed as a whole. The Mustang offense was not in sync in the first half but looked better in the second half, even if it was against a very mixed Rattler defense. Most of the second half was played against a largely second a third string lineup of Rattler defenders. Ratler offense was also mostly a mix of first and second teamers in the second half.

Navasota played about everybody on the bench during the game and with the exception of a few mitakes they played well. I think that this could gel into a prety good team if they keep working hard.

On a note--Madisonville has always had a Whaley n the backfield it seems, and this year is no exception. A sophmore named Whaley was the running back that made a difference in the second half. The kid is a strong straight ahead runner. He is tough to bring down. He will be enought to make Madisonville dangerous if they can fix a few mistakes.

Overall, the Rattlers have no major weakness except for size. The make up for that with speed and quickness. I expect that they will get even better each week as they grow together. The offense looks like it will be pretty good and the defense will be the best it has been in several years. Look forward to this team being really good by playoff time.
