Sherman’s season-opening game at The Colony this Friday has been moved down the road to Hebron High School in Carrollton because of faulty light standards at the host stadium, The Colony head football coach Rudy Rangel announced on Thursday.

The light poles at The Colony’s stadium failed a recent inspection, making it off limits until further safety studies can be performed. Engineers determined that the 70-foot-high poles might be too top-heavy to withstand a strong wind.

The light poles at The Colony were installed by Whitco, a Fort Worth company that filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and went out of business.

None of the Whitco poles were installed in Texomaland, but numerous schools and businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and elsewhere reported problems, including the toppling of two poles on consecutive days during strong winds at Sanger in April 2009 and another pole collapse at Argyle Liberty Christian in March.

That's scary I'm glad they found the problem before the problem found them.
