STRENGTHS
Lovejoy averaged 36.6 points last season and returns QB Michael Means and RB Blake Martin – two of the top players in the state in 3A – in its potent spread offense. Means threw for 2,092 yards and 15 TDs and ran for 1,565 yards and 30 TDs. Martin ran for 1,080 yards and averaged 7.6 yards per carry. Coach Puckett says all-district WR Parker Norris reminds him of NFL standout Wes Welker. LB Matt Kotecki (1301/2 tackles), DL Nate O'Connor (51/2 sacks) and DB Blake Westback (seven interceptions) were first-team all-district, and DE Ticer Havens (841/2 tackles, 121/2 sacks) also returns.
NOTABLE
RB/LB Martin and WR/DB Hayden Marsh combined to score 23 touchdowns while showing their versatility. Martin ran for nine TDs and scored six times on kickoff and punt returns. Marsh caught six TD passes and scored twice on interception returns

Honorable mention all-state RB Juan Williams rushed for 1,824 yards and 18 TDs. DL Zach Neely (58 tackles) was also honorable mention all-state, and LB/RB Malachi Davidson was second-team all-district. Prosper allowed an average of 8.7 points – second-best in the area for all classes last season.
NOTABLE
DL Mario Edwards, one of the area's top recruits for the Class of 2012, was honorable mention all-state for Prosper last year but transferred to Denton Ryan.

STRENGTHS
QB Austin Aune threw 16 TD passes as Argyle averaged 34.4 points. Layton Lowry averaged 8 yards per carry and will be the featured running back. DB Storm Griffin (85 tackles) was honorable mention all-state and is joined on defense by LB Trent Cantrell (110 tackles) and DB Kyle Thompson (57 tackles).
NOTABLE
Chad Hedlund, who has committed to TCU, was a first-team all-state kicker. He made 14 of 20 field goal attempts as Argyle reached the regional semifinals.

Honorable mention all-state RB Jose Romero (1,042 yards, 13 TDs) and RB Jamarick Simmons (871 yards, 13 TDs) return. QB Jacob Stephenson averaged 26.5 yards per completion in limited action. All-district DE Tanner Franklin leads a line that includes Sawyer Levit and Dallas Russell.
NOTABLE
Celina lost in the second round of the playoffs after reaching a state final the previous four years. ... Celina has already lost OL Jordan Roos (broken foot) and TE Justin Brumfield (torn ACL) to injuries.


5. Kennedale

STRENGTHS
After reaching the regional semifinals and averaging an area-best 385.8 rushing yards per game last year, Kennedale will look for big things from all-district FB Tony Sabando and RB Bo Burgess. Sabando ran for 1,396 yards and 21 touchdowns, and Burgess was the 3A state champion in the 300-meter hurdles in track. All-district LB Brandon Blanchard had 111 tackles and six sacks.
NOTABLE
Kennedale ran for 5,015 yards in 2009 – and passed for 206 yards.


6. Pilot Point

STRENGTHS
Pilot Point capped its 33rd straight winning season with a 2009 2A Division I state title. Pilot Point moves up to 3A but returns first-team all-district OL Will Allen and OL Boone Feldt (an elite recruit in the Class of 2012) in an offense that averaged 40.1 points. Mason Guthrie was a first-team all-district linebacker and is expected to replace first-team all-state selection Jarman Johnson at running back.
NOTABLE
J.P. Price, a starting receiver last year, is in line to start at quarterback.


7. Madison

STRENGTHS
WR Marquise Smith averaged 19.1 yards per catch, and was the 3A state champion in the 110-meter hurdles. Madison's spread offense lost RB Reggie Pegram, a Purdue signee, but returns QB Bryce Pearson (completed 51 percent of his passes) and RB Eric Horsely (10.6 yards per carry). DL Climmie Bell and CB Jamal Johnson were first-team all-district.
NOTABLE
In the realigned 12-3A, Madison and FW Polytechnic are the only teams that had winning records last season.


8. A. Maceo Smith

A. Maceo Smith fell one game short of the 4A playoffs last year and now drops to 3A. Senior OG/DT Keithen English has offers from Big 12 schools and others, and junior DB LaDarrell McNeil and junior WR/DB Damien Lawry are big-time recruits. A new-look spread offense will be led by QB Monterius Dukes (20.6 yards per completion).
NOTABLE
TE Chris Barnett, the state's 28th-best senior recruit according to Rivals.com, has transferred to Hurst L.D. Bell.


9. Sanger

STRENGTHS
QB Dane Evans passed for 2,389 yards and 21 TDs and will again throw to first-team all-district receivers Nathan Rotter (45 catches, 710 yards, seven TDs) and Ryan Scott (29 catches, 502 yards, five TDs). RB/SS Brock Squier averaged 5.1 yards per carry, and center DJ Marick is a three-year starter. LB Hayden Thomas (80 tackles, 10 sacks) and DL Kyle Carrow (50 tackles) lead the defense.
NOTABLE
Evans led area 3A players in passing yards and passing TDs last year.


10. Kaufman

STRENGTHS
The team leaders in tackles (LB Jason Neal), sacks (DE Jemikal Jobe) and interceptions (FS Miles York) return. York is slated to be the starting quarterback, and Jobe is in line to start at running back in an offense that averaged 221.3 rushing yards last year. Big things are expected of WR/CB Joe Posigian and TE Corey Cox.
NOTABLE
No team in the realigned 13-3A had a winning record last season. Kaufman is no longer in a district with Kennedale and Alvarado, which went a combined 18-7 last year.
